Lowering the passenger footrests GL1500

Hi Folks

Here's hoping that someone is able to help.

My good lady and pillion passenger suffers with a lower back problem and is developing arthritis in her hips. She loves riding on the wing but we cannot go far (less than 30 minutes some days) before we have to stop so that she can stand up to ease the pain.

We have found that an inflatable cushion helps to ease the pain. We are currently working on an idea that perhaps if we were able to lower the passenger footrests about 3 inches this would help even more.

Can anyone tell me if there is an aftermarket product available that can be used to achieve this, the bike is a 1995 GL1500se with adjustable passenger footrest (shame that they only adjust one way).

Many thanks in anticipation

I have been around GL1500's since they came out in 1988 and have never seen an after market gizmo that will lower the passenger foot boards. This includes visiting many vendors at lots of Rallies and such.

Maybe this could be a suggestion if the passengers legs are long enough.

If you have floor boards or foot pegs, put your feet there and let the passenger use your rider foot pegs.

Hi CastleWing, I just stepped out to check my Wing. Personally I don't see any reason why you couldn't make a set to suit but bear in mind that the main stand is about an inch below the left footrest but the right hand side is free and clear.
I'm sure if you got a local guy to make a drop down piece with a cut away for the stand it would be very possible. I am sure that the existing parts could be reused. Maybe a local welder could come up with something!

I used to service and repair hospital equipment and wheelchairs. I was always modifying equipment to make them more adaptable for the wheelchair bound folks.

Thats one of my problems on my 80 GL1100 When I'm riding it. Adding some extra leg extensions helped ease the pain, along with a good back rest.

i know they make these rizers, but with a little inginuity they could be adapted to lower the boards

Hey Eddie W that's great, if a plate similar to that was made and inverted the footrest could be mounted in the lower position. With a couple of spacers on the left side to extend it out to avoid the main stand. Very simple and inexpensive alternative.

I have reacently checked into lowering the boards for my wife. The center stand is in the way on the left side. Maybe some hiway pegs and custom mounting brackets. I will look into this again.

Hi Folks

Thanks for your thoughts, I have been having my own and propose to have a fabricator friend of mine make up a pair of brackets mounting off the rear crash bars and footboard mounting bolts (see drawing below), I will keep you informed of my progress
