Does anyone have any experience or information on the Martek ignition system which can be fitted to a GL1000?

They were quite popular back in the 70's and 80's on GL1000 Gold Wing's.

:waving:the only one that i think you can still get parts for is the dynatek (dyana ) . for the 1000 use ds1-3 . you can still buy them new. they run about 125 usd.

yes they are better than points. no replaceing points , no retimeing. installe , set , and forget. just my 2 cents.

Had a 78 GL1000 once. I installed the Dynatek DS1-3. This was
back in the early 90's. Loved the bike after that. Was so tired of
replacing and setting the points. Took about an hour to do.

Sold the bike to get my first 84I in 1996. The 78 ended up in a small
town about 150 miles away. Then a guy here in my town bought it
last year. Went for a ride with this guy and realized he was riding my
old 78. It had been repainted from the blue color it had been to a copper
tone metal flake. That's why I didn't recognize it right away.

So it's back here again and running on the Dynatek just fine. Who knew! :action:

theres no dought the dyna is better as long as you get the 3 ohm coils to go with it. in my opinion its the best upgrade out there for the gl1000. one moduaul is fixed and one adjustable move the adjustable as close to fixed moduaul as it will go ive never had one that didnt stay that way. good setup electronic ignition and manual advance. i know nothing about the one you ask about joedrum

There is no way to test the ignition without installing on the bike. If it is ok then it is much preferred to points for reasons stated above.

The Martek was a good system and many still run it. If you try some searches you should be able to find a set of installation instructions for it here. If the price was right I would have no qualms at all about purchasing one. the only issue is zero support if it should fail.
