Mirrors on a GL1500 done

Just ordered (from two different vendors) a set of chevron mirror LED lights. Cheap. Both less than $4 ea including shipping! Hope to mount in my 2000 GL1500SE.
I'm hopeful the procedure shown elsewhere in this subject link will guide me; but, I'm wondering if the procedure is for a later 2001 or newer GW model? Can anyone clearify? Thanks, Sarge

Don't you think the sequential lights will take too much space on the mirrors? I'm very hesitant using them thinking they will be too restrictive to a good rear view; maybe 1/3 or more!

Here"s how I "see" it... Looks like one takes an exacto blade (or other very sharp knife) & penetrates the "gasket" or "frame" at its outside edge and in front of the of the mirrors edge, and then one uses the mirror glass as a guide for the blade to slice (split) the "frame" around. I would split (open) just enough of the frame to be able to remove/replace the mirror glass from/into its frame. I would expect one needs to close(seal) this "split" once the LEDs are mounted to the back of the glass and all is re-inserted. Close?
