Mirrors on a GL1500 done

It took me about 4 hours to figure how to take apart GL1500 mirrors apart to be able to install Arrows for turn signals on the back side of the glass. Its not as bad as I thought. Here is the picture of them on. Next set I will try something different with turn signals and on the left will be the volt gauge and on the right will be the outside air temp on the inside edges. Any and all feed back is welcome. These are going on Larry's Trike I'm fixing up. By the way total cost is about $10.00 to this job.

Did you drill holes in the mirror or just take the reflector off the back? This is just amazing!!
Thanks!
Bill
Just removed the mirror coating on back boy I wish I could of drilled threw the glass that would of been one of a kind mirror
So now that you've done both ways which do you like best?
I'm thinking when I do mine I'll do them hidden behind the reflective coating so the mirrors look stock unless the turn signals are on.
Your package will be shipped out in the AM. I like the ones where the mirror surface has been completely removed because they then real show up during the day and at night.
this is a great mod. thanks for sharing the details.

did you glue the rubber "frame" around the mirror to secure mirror in housing? ( "frame" cut to remove mirror at start )
Yes reglued and then sealed on outside with RTV

Mirrors Wired

Here are a few pictures of how I wired the mirrors so in case you removed the mirrors you can unplug them

I have had my mirrors on my 1500 with these for about two years I love them. There is someone on Ebay in Arozona that charges 60.00 send him your mirrors and they are back within a week. Then when you reinstall them the wires he puts on connects to the front turn signals
Thats why this forum is the greatest I was searching how to do them when I found the guy on eBay but I love to do thing myself so now I will

as I read you did not use heat at all ???

great job asigetic:claps::claps::claps:
very constructive post
My next one I will use these that I also bought
Have you tested with the sequential (I guess there is not enough room to fit in )
The sequential are to big to try in a 1500 waiting for another project bike to try those on
I just orded the sequential from china 3.96$ each and a scrap mirror and will try I will keep you posted
I likey the sequential ones! Do you have a link to those?

PM sent...

You just need to use silicone for this project.
Thanks Stu

I am talking about the black plastic ring, that is cut with a knife, you thinks
Silicone good enough ???

thanks
It should be fine if you let it set up a few days before uprighting it.
