Never done a poll before , so thought I'd try it. Which runs along the lines of these two products, I haven't used before, so thought I'd try it. Which brings us to the point at hand for a poll as to which YOU think is the better?

I posted the ingrediants to "MMO" it's mostly "Mineral Spirits" and some extras, it just looks like "ATF" ! (post "MMO" on Aug 27th,05)

This is obviously a younger crowd, Seafoam is leading the old standard, MMO.

Threw a can of Sea Foam in this weekend, says it treats 8 to 20 gal so I was worried may be to much? That stuff burns better than gas!!!:clapper:

I just can't believe that with all the people that recommend SeaFoam and MMO all the time, we only have 10 votes.

Threw it into what, and treats those gals to what. I think I'll stick with MMO since the Woman who hangs around here won't let me fool with even one of those gals.

I even want to hear from the people who have never used either!!!!:baffled:

Or other products. I've seen some mention ATF (Automatic Tranny Fluid) Another I've heard of which is supposd to be a hot item in Winnipeg by wing riders is Opti II.

Over the last year or so, MMO or Seafoam have been mentioned so many times. Lets hear about bad experiences.....good.......whatever!!!!!

Exavid says it's good on pancakes!!!!

Hell.....I did this so I could make an informed descision to use it!!!!!!

Well, I went and bought a case of the Seafoam. Piston Ring is apparently the only one that sells it in Canada and list on the shelf for $12.00 a can before taxes(14%=$13.68) My buddy that is a manager at Piston Ring said they're getting e-mails from the east coast in Canada wanting to have it shipped out to them. My cost worked out to $9.00 a can. Poured 1/2 a can into the 96 (which is parked) to stabalize the fuel. Poured 1/2 can into the tank on the 82 and 1/2 can into the oil. I think I notice a difference in the sound, and performance of the bike. The stuff smells like coleman camp fuel.

So.....anyone ever use coleman camp fuel????? How about on your pancakes???:stumped:

Still can't find anyone here who sells MMO.

Coleman camp fuel, never. I always used to fill my lanterns and stove with 80/87 avgas drained from my airplane's tank sump. People told me it'd ruin the gas generator in the lantern but it never did, lots of gallons of the stuff went through the two burner lamp.

I'm having a hard time voting, I've used both Seafoam and MMO but can't say either one of them was better than the other. I've tended to use them as a preventive so can't really say if any improvement would havebeen noticed if there was a problem.

I've never added any additives to anything I've ever owned. However I have considered trying some different products on my "wing" but have been leery because I have no idea what the effects might be to the wet clutch.

Am I reading correctly that some of you are adding marvel mystery oil to the gas tank and to the engine oil as well? what sort of ratio would you consider appropriate for fuel or engine oil? :?

I have never heard of sea foam so we must not have that product here in the south.

I'm willing to try anything once......I dont have any rabbits, but I got some stray cats! anybody know a good MMO glazed cat recipe? :p

A skinned and dressed cat looks a hell of a lot like a skinned, dressed rabbit. In the fifties when my dad was stationed at Kadena AFB Okinawa I saw some cats in a village store, I think you could probably pass them off.

Seafoam is distributed by NAPA in the US. The parts america stores (Such as Shucks) only carry the seafoam transmission treatment. If you have a NAPA near you, they will either have it on the shelf, or will be able to get it from the warehouse the same day. My local NAPA store can't keep it on the shelf!

Seafoam saved me about $350.

On my cage, (1997 Nissan altima with 100k miles on the clock) the check engine light came on and it started idling rough, and guzzling gas. I burped the computer, and it gave me an EGR code. So, I pulled the EGR valve off, and cleaned it up as best as I could. Put a new gasket on, and torqued it down. Light came back on, and the engine was running rough as ever. So, since my emissions test was coming up in a few weeks, I needed to get it fixed. I called the local "Greg's Japanese Auto" shop, and they quoted me $250 in parts, and $100 in labor to replace it. I figured I'd give seafoam a try, so I dumped a can in my tank, filled it up with Tier 1 gasoline (chevron) and took a 200 mile road trip into the mountains. Right about the time the empty light came on, the Check engine light turned off, and it's been 6 months. Car runs like a dream. I treat her to a can every 6 months, same with the bikes.

O'Reilly Automotive also carries both the transmission and the fuel/crankcase version. At least the stores around here do.

This is from their web site:

SEA FOAM can be found in many of the following auto parts stores:

ABC Auto Parts Advance Auto PartsAuto Value Bumper to Bumper CARQUEST Auto Parts Midway Auto Supply NAPA Auto Parts O'Reilly Auto Parts Parts Plus Pronto Auto Parts

They also sell it at "Auto Zone" stores!

Small white can with red lettering!

Doesn't stand out on the shelf, I had to ask if they had it because it was tucked away on the top shelf?!

It helped my bike alot , so I'll probably do it once a year and "MMO" in between?!:clapper:

I have not used either of them yet. I have only put 500 miles on my 84 1200A and the Starter Clutch locked up so I am pulling the engine now. I plan to use the MMO since it is readily available once I get the beast breathing again. I did try Lucas Fuel treatment and found the bike to run smoother although I ran it through on some long rides because it would idle very low at stop signs and then die it I did not rev it up a little.

so just to add another question.... saw some GUNK engine flush at wally-world. The bottle says... add to oil... run five minutes, then change oil...

any thoughts?
imported post

5 minutes doesn't really seem long enough to clean up anything.

I wish you could have seen what I saw when I did the MMO in the crankcase on my 84 Aspencade. When I drained off 1 qt of oil and added the 16 oz bottle of MMO to the crankcase, the oil still was fairly clear with only slight sings of being dirty.

I poured in the MMO and then, over the course of several days, rode the bike 275 miles and then drained the oil and changed the filter.

That oil was filthy. It was completely black and had all kinds of gunk and goop in it. It kinda reminded me of looking at crude oil. It also stunk very bad.

I cannot believe that my oil went from the nice clear golden color to this black crud in just 275 miles but it did. Anyway, I did the oil and filter change and all is well. I can definately tell a difference in engine noise. The old oil I believe was something like 5W30 (very very thin) and when I went back in with new oil, I put in Castrol 20W50. I am 100% pleased with my results.

Gunk may be too strong on the seals, just use "MMO" ?!:clapper:

Found some Sea foam, whoever said that there would only be one can and it would be hidden away was exactly right. BTW, thanks for the description of the can too, I never would have found it at all.

I added some to my engine oil and to my fuel tank, I followed the instructions on the bottle so as not to over do it I have ridden only 15 miles or so since adding it so I havent seen any change in my "wing" just yet but who knows, maybe its the magic cure all in a bottle.

I will keep you advised, I'm sure you are all just dying to know what miracle Sea Foam can produce :p
imported post

Well I am presently testing Sea Foam in my fuel tank at the moment. After I use it a couple of times, I'll be able to make a discision.:)
