Modifying 1200 exhaust

1161 Views 8 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  newday777
Hi guys, on one of my 1200 Standards the exhaust has a ring of rot around the end section of the muffler. This looks like where the baffle would end, approx 6 inches from the muffler end. I was thinking of slash cutting the pipe right before it reduces. Has anyone tried this and how does it sound?

I have a pair of mufflers that I was given by a member that were off of his 1100, that were orginally off of a VTX 1300..The "bells" were drilled out and turned "down", then spot welded in place...Who ever made them used the stock headers, and the "stock chrome shields" to cover their welds up...I know that a VTX stock pipes come out on the right side setting on one, but like I said who ever made this system, knew what they were doing...

The only problem I had with them, is that they were too short to clear my light bar..So they are in my garage waiting on this guy I know to give me a hand in extending them to where they clear the light bar and mount where the stock mufflers mount...Not a big thing just haven't had the time to get with my welder buddy...

One more thing, who ever made them, was they drilled out 5 extra holes around the factory "outlet", which I will have those extra holes filled in, they are a bit louder than I want...I took some, OK don't laugh, some wood dowels, stuck them into those extra holes, just long enough to crank my Wing and see what they sounded like "plugged".. With those extra holes filled in they sound Great!!!!..Just smelled like a "Lttle Smokey BBQ pit" after a few minutes......

BTW...Harley muflers sell for a whole lot more than $30 to $60 dollars here at the breakers or at a Harley dealership..
