Modular helmet and from where

Hey all, I have had a nolan n 100 for probably 15 years or so, this helmet has been incredible and taken me many miles down the road and has been my main full face modular other than a half helmet and a few other full face that I rarely wear. I figured I better protect my head and get a new helmet. I am lost on what type of Modular to get and who to order from. Has anyone ordered from Chromeburner? I don't know if it's better to order a helmet from a company in the US or Europe, as Chromeburner seems to have some good deals with free shipping if you meet the price point. The only part you pay after that is customs charges that I was told are 10-20 percent of your order.

I have been watching and reading to many reviews. I am looking at the Nolan N 100 5 Plus and can save a few hundred dollars ordering outside of the U.S.
I am looking at:

Nolan

Schuberth C5 looks to be an incredible helmet.

HJC i90

Shoei: Don't wanna pay 800 just for the helmet so that excludes Shoei.

Klim: TK1200: I dig the helmet shield transitioning for you automatically. However, I do like to ride a bit with my chinbar up and would think I would want a helmet that has the internal sun visor. What Klim has is spectacular and would be awesome, I just think maybe not due to not having an internal sun visor to use when you shield is up.

Any suggestions or what you like and companies that have had good service would be great. Also, ordering from Motocard or Chromeburner again I can save a few hundred dollars.

I think they say to replace a helmet every 5 years or so. My helmets are usually pretty worn in that amount of time anyway, because they get used year-round and often.
I had 3 Shoeis and they seem pretty good, but have switched to HJC and am now on my second one of those. They are definitely more comfortable and last longer. Considering the price difference, the brand has won me over. Hopefully I'll never actually have to test one.

I have had a couple of HJC helmets, they seemed to fit pretty good.

My current Helmet is a Shoei, the price on that thing was immense, but it is the most comfortable helmet I have owned.

I switched to carbon fiber, so much lighter Easier on my bad neck. Price has come down a bit.

I've had cf lids for years and love how light they are. It's just, on balance, that I find flip-up lids more convenient than a full face (especially as I wear glasses).
A cf flip-up... I'd probably need to sit down to read the price tag

I always use Modular, flip up Helmets, a necessity when you wear glasses

When I started wearing glasses, I went modular. However, I still have to take off my glasses to put it on, so really no advantage. I do flip it up from time to time to talk to someone. I'm due for a new one, but undecided on how to go. No modular is as strong as a fullface.

Helmets don't need to be strong, in fact, they should have less strength than your neck.
Your face has developed over millennia to act as the impact zone for your brain and neck. If it is stronger, then you get dead/paralyzed with a pretty face.
The very fact that helmets are only guaranteed up to 14mph shows that all the extra expense charged by the brands like Shoei are irrelevant.

When I say strong I am referring to how they hold up in safety tests. Until now I have always had SNELL certified helmets, but AFAIK no modular can pass those tests at the moment. Also new tech like MIPS can work to reduce the neck breaking rotational forces at impact. Sometimes you really do get what you pay for, sometimes not.
I think Arai made a video showing their testing and how it has improved the product over the years. Their helmets from even a few years ago wouldn't pass their current minimum standards.

I use an LS2 Valiant. It is a modular, but the chin bar flips all the way to the back so it acts more like a 3/4 helmet when you want the wind in your face. Slide action sun shield. Price is reasonable. Depending on the model between $250 and about $350.

I use Modular for same reason as most, glasses.My first was a Nolan 100N and thought it was great but next helmet was HJC because the helmet prier was full face HJC and breathed much better than the Nolan. The HJC didn't breath any better but fit better on my head.
My current helmet is HIVIZE yellow. After being rudely knocked off my KLR I want to be seen.

Do they not pass the test or does SNELL refuse to test them? I think it's the latter.

Bought a Shoei Neotec last year. Almost 800 but I’m 69 and been riding most of my adult life and I figured I deserve a really nice helmet.
It matches my 2000 two tone red gl1500 se perfect.
I bought it at a shop so I could try it on as no two heads are the same.
Also got the Sena blue tooth headset and can play music from my iPhone thru XM.
Mostly have used HJC in the past.
Will need another helmet this year for riding my dual sport on dirt roads.
Don’t want to get that Shoei all dirty

i can't remember wearing anything but a HJC in a modular helmet.
the Shoei helmet will fit a long oval head better than a rounder head. The HJC will fit a rounder head better. When you put it on, feel if it touches the sides of your head. If you can feel space on the sides of your head with your helmet on, you may need a helmet that fits a longer oval head.
All that said, I can't pay the price of a Shoei, just to get the longer oval shape, so I still use the HJC.

To an earlier post; Why would you buy a modular helmet and then ride with the chin bar up? Have you ever seen the aftermath of a rider who hit the pavement face down, wearing 3/4 helmet? your chin and nose are exposed to the pavement and it doesn't take much top grind your chin down to almost nothing. Not a pretty sight. Protect your face. Put the chinbar down, for your own protection.

I only ride with the chin down when it's raining - that can vary so much in the UK that carrying an open face and a full face that stopping to swap would double the time to get from A to B

As for wearing a yellow helmet to aid visibility... you do know cars pull out in front of trucks

and they ignore the Flashing Lights on Fire Engines, Ladder Trucks, and Tow Truck drivers working the highways:

And white is more visible than yellow. I have a steel target at 200 yds. Painted it yellow and couldn't find it, painted it white and can see it easily.
