Well if no-one speaks good of them then what's the loss?
I'm thinking business wise of course, not any personal life or health losses to people.

Internet issues here, can't load links to read anything tonight.

You can't really call that place a "salvage yard". The man must have had thoudands of bikes out there... mostly complete ones at that. Had it set up just like a business until you walked in and asked for something. Never heard him say (or heard of him saying) anything other than "not for sale". Wouldn't sell bikes, wouldn't sell parts, wouldn't sell ANYTHING... but still put on the face of a "business". Tragic for sure because the old man lost everything, but he's the only one that lost it because it wasn't available to anyone else. Guess its a case of whatever floats your boat, but if you're going to refuse to sell anything and get angry when people have the nerv to even ask, then don't put up signs and facilities and make it look like a "business".

EDIT: just because he was a jerk doesn't mean I rejoyce in this... or the 5 houses lost. Very sad.

I used to know a guy in Dallas that had 5 mini-warehouses full of old Apple parts, I am sure worth a ton to the right people. Since Apple built computers in Carrollton back in the 80's parts were all over the place.

He was the same, but not as bad as this guy. He never sold much, just hoarded, and even his apartment should have been on the show Hoarders back then.

He got behind on his warehouse rent, and they gave him 30 minutes to get what he wanted, and they dumped all the rest of it. He said it was quite a ton of weight off his shoulders to be rid of the stuff after all that time. Even though he went about it wrong.

One has to wonder, from the location of the start of the fire in Rye, that it may not have been intentionally set. Could be a disgruntled customer, but that would leave too many suspects.
