My wing starts and runs great but only gets 30-31 mpg, no matter how fast I ride. This is documented over several 1000's of miles on the highway.

My 85 wing consistently got 40-42.

The air filter is clean, tire preasure is right.

Is there anything I can do to improve the mileage?:?

I have a '92 also, the best mileage I have ever gotten was 38.5, one up, no wind, 45-55 mph max. My consistent mpg is about 37. I have new tires, run synthetic oil (both crankcase and final drive) k&n filter. If I do the same route at 65-70 mph, my mileage drops to 34 - 35 mpg. I'm going to sync the carbs and see if it makes a difference. Also I do the sea foam treatment at least twice a year.

My '93 consistently achieves 40mpg. It has dropped when riding against heavy head winds, and when I ride much over 70mph. In day to day riding some in town and some on the freeway it usually hits very close to 40mpg. 30-31 mpg sounds to me that either there's a fuel leak or possibly a vacuum leak. How do the spark plugs look?

You guys really need to confirm mileage using a GPS instead of relying on the bike's odometer. My 1100 is 3mph off at 60.

My '94 never did better than 34.5 mpg gps miles.

Worst it ever did was 27 mpg pushing 85 mph in a head wind.

but, I never, ever drove it slower than about 75 mph if on the open road. In town, it was whatever the traffic is doing. Stop and go, or 65. Never seemed to make much difference. Day in, day out, I could depend on 33-34.5

I usually see upper 30's, like others said, it will be less at speeds over 70 or so.

ever stand back and look at the front view of your bike??
Like driving a brick into the wind!!

1200's got the best mileage and my 1800 is way better than my 1500.. 32-35 per US gal is average by the looks of it

My speedo matches my GPS exactly. Odometer matches up with GPS miles traveled also.:p

I tried that for two consecutive tanks of fuel. Not enough difference to even be noticed at the pump when you fill it up. I would shift it at 1500 rpm and maybe gain 0.5 mpg

Shift it at 3500 and still get 33.2-34.5

I have ridden with other 1500s and all of them were within 1/2 gallon of the fuel it took to fill mine up at the same gas pumps.
