Credit is due to LVWolfman/Rick Cross for providing this info on their forum.

In a nutshell, it allows you to upload/download waypoints, favorites and POIs to/from your Nuvi to back them up OR edit/create them on your computer. Ties in with Google Maps so you can stick the pushpin EXACTLY where the location is.

Too bad this can't be done with the Navi, but, I bet there's a way, if one of us would just discover it, or if one of Garmin's own would fess up.

Yep, there is a way, we just haven't discovered it yet.

I don't own an 1800, but when I do, that will become obligatory. Either that, or I will continue to use my Garmin 2730 which talks to my PC just fine
