I am starting to map out where I have been already and where I would like to hit on this trip. Not sure how long some of these areas take to get to from Fontana Dam.
Some areas I am looking into...
Diamondback
Moonshine 28 run
Six Gap
Devils Triangle
Devils Drop

Lots of roads taken last year when I went with the 1500. Most don't ride my style, but looking to cover lots of this area. Seeing several great places off of the BRP to hike and visit more, but traveling alone, this might be better witnessed when I come back with a partner.

Just a thought! Download an app called Everytrail. It will log where you rode, speed, elevation, etc. Looking at the maps, I have traveled lots of these roads and would like to hit up these new areas. Any suggestions or travel times known from the locals? At work now and trying to map out distances and travel times needed, plus be back for the events at lodge.

Had lots of these maps last year on my ride. Thanks John. Any idea how long the Moonshine 28 run takes? Any group ride running all of this route? Lots of great roads in this area!!!! Not sure how far I can push outwards and yet be back for all the events.

Is there a calendar of events and what time things start? Maybe I have this already, but getting pulled here and trying to get everything laid out before the trip starts.

Schedule of events is here http://www.goldwingfacts.com/forums/13-nassir-meet-n-greet-forum/504314-nassir-7-schedule-events-activities.html

For the most part, each day has a scheduled ride and a whole lot of rides that will be member organized on the fly. There are not really any scheduled events during the days that the people out on rides would miss. Now some of us will be playing a round or two of frisbee golf and I think Bernie has some parking lot competitions set up for Wednesday but other than that, food and socializing take place beginning at 6:00PM each day. That leaves you plenty of time to ride all day!

I would like to give my hand at parking lot competitions. That would be cool to try! See it on videos all the time and I never set up cones and stuff to see how I would be. Bought all the events, just didn't know what time to get back for them. Looking forward to the events! Time is going quick!

Several maps and ideas forming now. Here is an easy ride and map I noticed you didn't have. I have several files and will see if they post.

This "Rattler" on 209 is talked highly of. Not sure if these are repeats, but areas I will be hitting up myself. Hope this info is good for others also.

Note: Page 2 of "Brochure.pdf" is very handy! Lots of scenic roads are labeled and give a sense of overview. I have lots of mapped out areas now and times to get to some of these distance ones. I can see another trip will be needed!!!!!

I have The Snake on my list! 489 curves, 3 mountains, 1 valley packed into 33 miles!!!! Tail of the Dragon is ok, but go big since I am not home!
DiamondBack
Python
The Rattler
Devils Drop
US 276
US 215 (I think I did this one already???)
Chimney Rock
Moonshine 28
Warwoman Rd
76 to Six Gap and Suches Run
Wayah Rd
Devils Triangle
All BRP on way home

Last year I did 1900 miles in a four day run. One day down, two days in the mountains and one day home. What I thought would take two days, I did in one. So many roads to venture, so much to see....even from the road and lookouts. Curious how to budget return times and nightly events. Can't use standard logic with this road system. Will be trusting the GPS I guess. Can't wait! Much more experienced this year and butt is conditioned this time. Last May the 1500 was still new to me and 1900 miles was my first, true long distance trip. Now I learned how to do 2,000 miles in 48 hours. Excited to see these other back roads!

Mark,
Maybe we can meet up and do the 209 together.

I'll be workin' the Welcome Table Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning. If you come through when I'm there, I'm the bald-headed guy. ;)

I will be the other bald guy then. By end of week, maybe not! Could rough it and get a bit fuzzy as the week goes on. Coming straight in on Sunday. Sounds like Wednesday would be the best time for ya? I am thinking I will head out early mornings and hit the distance places like the Snake, Diamondback, Suches Run, Six Gap, etc. I can save the 209 and many of those roads for a day together. So many jogs and scenic roads to hit up.
I am site 01 in the Fontana campgrounds. 309- eight, two, six-4388.

Read about that store! So much to see on this trip. What time do guys like to get moving? I don't have set routes and take off time, but if leaving with others, we should have a round up time and go from there. It is hard for me to say when and where I am going day to day, but should we make a small group of distance riders? I ride tank to tank and about 5-9 over the speed limit when alone. 10 minutes gas stops and 30 minute food at noon and evening usually. I change my ways riding with others and let them set the pace so I know what they handle. With my job, I am waking up around 4:30am and toss and turn after that. Any thoughts of who would like to form this kind of ride group? I would say kickstands up no later than 7am??? Open to ideas and thoughts. So many people, so many styles, so many roads! Hard to tell also when someone wants to hit a look out point or just suck it in as you travel by. I handlebar mount a camera and catch what I can for others. Film just isn't the same as seeing it for yourself is my thoughts.

More about me....
I will travel ch 7 on CB. This trip will be with a hand held mic, but will listen over sound system. (Full face helmet has mic, but not wearing that one on this trip.)
I am very good about watching my mirrors and not leaving someone behind. Not many get to far ahead of me, but some of you locals may be able too. I don't let big distance form between people, so know I am just up ahead waiting for ya if something did happen like a light. I am learning to crank u turns now, so I might even come back for ya if traffic allows.
Let me know if you want to join me Monday morning and hit someplace 2-3 hours out and enjoy my listed runs and other roads on way back. Planning early morning take offs each day. Thursday I may cool it down and ride more local. You guys have me interested in Parking Lot challenges. Would love to try an actual lay out! Always trying to improve!

Game plan for me Monday morning....
I would like to be on the road no later than 7am.
Heading toward Bristol, VA. by Interstate in morning.
Will hit 19 on way up.
Riding The Snake (421), then The Python (58).
Working my way South and watching time to be back
Will hit Diamondback and everything I can take in around Boone, Linville Falls, Little Switzerland, Elk Park, etc.
Depending on time left, may hit Chimney Rock (74) and any scenic roads in between.
Will aim to be back at the lodge by 4ish???
I am pulling out right now to head to Wingding in Madison, Wisconsin. Leaving early am for Fontana Dam tomorrow morning and hope camp is up by 6pm their time.

If you want to hit many scenic roads with my plan on Monday, catch me at 01 Campsite at Fontana Dam. I will try to read forum, but may not be able to. Let me know if I should wait for ya or I may pull out by 6 am. Tuesday and Wednesday may be South into Georgia for Six Gap and over to South Carolina area. Then other day will be West for Devils Triangle and all roads that way. I will save hitting the Rattler (209) for Wednesday or Thursday if people wanted to do that together.
Alone I push hard, but if someone wants to go with, I will take their pace and we can map out how much to hit as time allows. Interstate early am gives us time to let fog burn off and best parts for all afternoon as I work the way back. My number is 309-826-43 eight eight if you want to catch me and set up a plan.

I may have a change of plans...... Instead of coming out Monday, I may leave tomorrow. Because of all the "Stuff" I have to bring and couldn't get the second trailer registered in time, Becca is bringing the extra stuff out in the car, then she will head back home. We are expecting a big delivery on Monday and she has to be here to sign for it.

So Gosh Darn it........ I may just have to bite the bullet and do the unthinkable....... head out a day early.......
