I had great luck with the Elites on my former GL1200, 20,000 to 25,000 miles on the rear tire. I now have a GL1500 and I am going to stay with Elites, now the E3's. I do not have enough miles on them to know how long they will last. I do not expect to get the same miles out of them, it's just a different cycle. But it sounds like you did fairly well with yours especially considering 2 up and trailering. The prior posts seem clear that it is very important to stay with 43-45 psi in the rear tire and 40 to 42 in the front for longevity. I will not knock someone else's decision on a tire, but I believe (opinion) that cycles the size of ours, carrying a load, need a tire designed for a cycle.
The big ticket item on the mufflers is the center collection box. That is almost $1,000. The individual mufflers are about $200 each. You are correct, that is pricey. What part of your syetm is rusted? There are mufflers out there for less but I would recommend putting a note in the section of this forum for buying or selling items. You can also go to youtube and search for GL1500 mufflers and see what people are doing.
