Need a new GL1200 starter..best options?

Hello Folks,

I need a new starter for my buddy's 85 1200. The one he has is beyond repair, armature and windings are shot. I was wondering if the offshore suppliers have made any improvements to the housings cracking and short longevity of the starter that I have heard about on various GL forums. Is buying an OEM rebuilt or used starter and rebuilding it still the best option?
