When responding to a post how do you do a double quote.

For example If I am trying to make a reply and want to quote 2 different posts above mine how do I do it?

I thought I could quote the 1st post, then type whatever. Then fing the next post I wanted to quote and hit the quote button for that one. Then post more but I cant seem to do it. The quote button isnt there after I click it the first time.

:?

Thanks

Thereprobably isa simpler way but you could first highlight and "copy" one post, then 'quote' theother and "paste"what you copied into the body of the post you are 'quoting'? It is simpler than it sounds! ;)

Sorry Redwing, I was writing while you were posting. Your description looks simpler than mine!

Now, here I am going to paste the crappola below here , create Quotes for each segment.

You do that by highlighting only a small bit of the text, the chunk you want for that particular quote. Then you go up and click on the Double Quotes icon to the left of the Globe Link symbol.

Highlight all of the text from as many posts as you want.
Here, I highlight the above line, and clicked on that Double Quote symbol

Paste those into a text editor. Use lines between each post to separate them -----------------
I did the same here, I highlighted the above line and clicked the Double Quotes...

Leave a blank line between the posts also. ----------------------
Leaving those blank lines really gives your post a lot of emphasis and also makes for better readability.

Then copy paste the whole shebang from the editor over to the REPLY editor in the forum.
And now, I will bow out, and let you do it.

Thanks John,

Its funny you replied to this, the reason I was asking is because I was wanting to respond to you and another fellow in my thread on the rebuld of my 82 1100 in the tech section.

I figured I would ask this question while I was waiting on the garageto warm up. Its warm now so its time to go out and start working on it.I will have to study what you just said above and give it a try later tonight by responding to you and maybe posting more pics of the rebuild.

Thanks.

When you are in the Forum's editor, there are two tool bars above where you type in the text.

The upper of the two bars, on the right hand side looks like this:

Left to right, Left Margin icon, Right Margin Icon, Double Quote icon, Global Link icon, Image icon, Codes icon

The two " " marks together are what is called the Double Quote marks icon.
IF you will click on that icon, what ever is already "Highlighted" will be converted into a Quote message.

For instance, I am going to highlight the phrase what ever is already "Highlighted" and paste it below this sentence, highlight that newly pasted text, and then click on the double quotes link tool. The icon is the 3rd icon from the left side of this image.

what ever is already "Highlighted"
What I did was copy the phrase (what ever is already "Highlighted" ) down to where I wanted it. Then I drew the mouse cursor over that phrase, and then I clicked on the "Double Quotes" icon. that created the quote image just above this paragraph.

This is very useful for being able to copy a lot of text, and then just selecting what you want to quote. You paste just that selected text, highlight it, make it a quote, and then below that, you make a statement about that quoted text.
as I have just done again with the paragraph right above this sentence.

OKAY, a Text Editor:
A text editor is any of a slew of editors that may exit on your computer. The simplest one, if you are using a Windows machine, is call the "notepad". I keep a copy of this editor on my Quick Launch toolbar, makes it easy to click onto, paste stuff into, and save it for future use.

You can use Microsoft Word, or Word Perfect, or anything that will create a text file. Here I am only using it to hold a lot of stuff that I want to use later.
Let's say that we want to copy some text out of Post #1. highlight what you want, copy it, switch to the Text Editor you are using, and Paste that text into that text editor (word processor - same thing)

Copy some text out of Posts 2, 3, 4, 5, as many times as you like. Post all of that stuff into the other text editor.

Now, you can highlight all of that stuff in one fell swoop, copy it, switch to the forum's editor in REPLY mode (you cannot use Quick Reply) and paste the text there.

Once you have that done, you can highlight a sentence, click on the Double Quotes icon and your highlighted text is now a Quoted sentence. Now you drop below that quote, space done one line for appearance's sake, and type in your response to that sentence.

Continue doing that for all of the other stuff you want to quote and reply to.

It is really much harder to explain all of this stuff, than it is to just do it. That is why, teaching someone hands on, in front of you, is so much easier than explaining it verbally.

Ask TodinPA, we just got through with a couple of hands on sessions after two over the telephone sessions failed.

Thanks for all the info; I found the "Forum's Editor"but it looks too complicated for me! ;) My 69 year old brain is almost full and I don't think there is room to add all that information, digest it, and find it again. I think I will stay with simple "copy and paste".

The reason it looks confusing to you, is a 68 year old goat is trying to tell you how to do it. :action::action:

Just remember, Notepad does have a limit on the amount of text it will hold whereas Wordpad doesn't.

Michael,

Been using MS misfits notepad for as long as it has been in existence. I doubt seriously that anyone will ever put enough text into it to experience that "limit on characters".

I have yet to do so, and I paste whole web pages to Notepad simply because it eliminates all of the HTML stuff in a heart beat.

For the purpose of which I mentioned it, it will never, ever, be pushed to its' limits.

Wordpad honors HTML which is exactly why I don't use it.
