Well I went ahead and changed the water pump. Not that hard but glad I did. It was dragging on the lower part of the cover. Not quite done though.
Question is when I removed the neutral switch I know it rotated, do I only have to make sure it shows neutral when it goes back in or can it be put in 180 off? This is an Aspencade where it shows 1 thru 5 in the dash.
Maybe dry fit just to check?
I did turn the key on neutral light is off.

The gear indicator switch is a grounding switch so you have to touch the cover to the engine to check where the switch is.
Or you could consult your manual.:raspberry:

The pin on the switch has a long side. Should be facing in the 4 o'clock position. Or downward, depending on your reference.

Dry run isn't a bad idea either. After I get a couple bolts in the front cover I like to either plug it in or ohm it out. Better to find out for sure before you get too far.

I didn't see the photo in the service manual (its on a computer I need to purchase a book) but will look again. I didn't realize it needed to be grounded to work.
Thanks for all the info will make for a better reinstall.
I was waiting to hear answers before I finished.
Just trying to clean off the old gasket with out scratching it.
