I had a flat tire on my 82 GL1100, I follwed the instructions on goldwingsdoc.com. Worked perfect. In the article he stated might as well replace the bearings well the wheel is off. So I took it to the dealership to have them do this. Since I did not have the reatining ring tool ( Which I bought 23 dollars). Now I know the stock honda bearing were sealed on the outside but not on the inside, from what I read at least. Still learing alot. Thanks for the answer so far.

So they call me and state they had to order in the cap for the inside of bearings cause appareantly they are not sealed. It this true? I thought they were sealed from the factory. He claims they are Honda OEM. Anybody else have this problem or heard of it?

Needless to say I will be doing this myself next time. Next questions do the bearings come with decent grease. I work with bearing all the time at work, and Iswear that only put vaseline in there or really cheap grease. I asked to pump them up with grease just in case.

All you have to do is get the numbers off the bearings, go to a bearing supplier and get new bearings, double sealed if you wish.

The OEM bearings are open on one side, and have to be packed with grease before installation. There is no "cap" on the inside to seal them.

Most aftermarket bearings are sealed on both sides, and do not need to be packed with grease before installation.
