I finished the rider safety course after being delayed the weekend of the hurricane - but not before securing my learner's permit and buying a learner's bike (Yamaha Vstar 650) from a girl. OH well. It's been fun - and a great confidence builder - but just too small. I'm 6'4" and 250, the Vstar won't suit be for the long haul. So I convinced my wife that now's the time to get another one and that I can sell the Yamaha for more than I paid in the spring. So I picked up an '85 Interstate from the father of a friend for $500. It went into his garage where it stayed for the past 8 years because it needed a stator. Now it's in my garage and mostly apart. No, I've never done anything like this before. Yes, I've taken lots of confidence from the hours i've spent reading the forums on this website. Thanks to everyone here, I have a big "can do" attitude - probably also thanks to my naivete too I'm sure.
The bike has 27000 miles on the odometer and he cranked the starter when I picked it up to show me that nothing was seized. So I'm heeding all the great advice and taking my time. It should be fun. I'm dreaming now about paint. What if....
Guess I should get it running first huh?
