Max, of Traxxion Dynamics mentions that this particular bike's steering spindle was broken by using a Canyon Dancer tie down system....

the Canyon Dancer has cups that slip over the ends of the handlebar grips, and I use one faithfully on my Piaggio scooter, and also on my 2002 gl1800.

I have a question about the 2001-2017 gl1800s. Is the Steering spindle as fragile as what this bike is?

AFAIK the 2001-2017 doesn't have a "spindle"?

It could be someone tied it down like it was a bulldozer. You don't want to fully compress the suspension to tie one down.

yeah,
that is my thought also Dave.

I just snug it down enough to keep it from going sideways, the usual single strap around the rear wheel is all I've been doing.
