New guy from Southern California checking in to say hi. I recently purchased a used 88 Goldwing with matching trailer from a coworker. it has 90K miles on it. I think I got a good deal on it for $4500. I have had it for about a month now. I am mainly using it to commute to work. If it ever stops raining here (yes it does rain in California) I can go on some weekend rides with my wife.

My first purchase was a factory Honda service manual (money well spent).

I am slowly gathering up new chrome pieces to update the look, to the newer style (2000). When I get all I need, I am going to tear it down and repaint it. (the wife wants it blue):p.

I just installed a 4 degree wheel in it, to help with the off idle hesitation (which it did). Now I am trying to squeeze some decent fuel mileage out of it (considering Lamonster overdrive). Can't seem to get better than 30 to 32 MPG out of it.

Im sure as time goes on, I will have tons of questions to ask (most of them dumb newbie stuff):shock:so please be gentle on me:D

Welcome to the worlds best Goldwing forum, I have learnt so much in the last six months about goldwings :15red:in general, not to mention the savings I have made servicing my 1500, how and were to purchase the best valued spares and add ons.

No question goes unanswered, no matter how silly you thing the question is. The replies comes in two forms the technical answers from our Guru's,and the light hearted replies from us Common posters who like to keep the forum fun.:cheeky1::action::jumper::cooldj:

I won't be to long before you will get the interrogation:whip:eek:n the problems you are experiencing on your :15red:.(what model is your 88)

Not sure actually. Didn't know there was different models. Is it a trim or lighting package, that makes the difference in the model designation?

Aspencade is the higher trim level.

By the way, like your CJ, last thing I sold before we fled Venezuela was the CJ-7 I restored, "Bam Bam". As the model years run behind there, I believe mine would have been a 78 stateside, but down there it was an 85.

John, welcome and I hope you learn lots here. The 88 only came in one moedel, that is the GL1500/6. There were no other models until 1990 when the GL1500/6 was renamed the Aspenceade and the SE was the new top O' the range machine. An Interstate was introduced the same year or the folowing year. There is a great GOLDWING HISTORY article on this same site, written by Steve Saunders. Go back to the main site entry page and click the link for "GOLDWING HISTORY" and the different changes for each year will become clear.

Bob,

Norco is on the western side of Riverside county. We are located right where the 15 and 91 freeways intersect.

Next month I will be heading out to Borrego SPrings near the Salton Sea to do some 4 wheeling. I think that's only a few hours from you.

John,

Borrego Springs is only about an hour or two from Yuma. My family and I went camping there a few years ago. From what I remember it's a pretty nice place. We always wanted to camp there again but haven't made it yet. If you get the time, come on down and give me a call. Could be a good ride over that way to, if I'm not working...........just to say hello:waving: Been wanting to go for a good ride!

Hey John , you and Christine are welcome here any time!!

It's by far the best Wing site there is!

These guys always amaze me with their knowlege of GoldWings and Bikes in general!

I use to live in Riverside and Moreno Valley and Yucca Valley! Was in and out of Norco alot for work, always liked that town with it's Cowboy feel !

I'm in Pahrump , Nevada now but I need to ride Moreno and Riverside when it gets nice to see my brother and good friend, maybe we can grab lunch one weekend!

I've got an old "Naked GL 1100" but she's a good one !

You can go out your back door to Lake Elsinore and up the Ortega HWY to San Jaun Capistrano!

Beautiful ride if the "Crotch Rockets" don't take your ears off on the Ortega HWY !

Have fun, Bro Pete "the Greek"

Dean, Toronto:?
Dean,

If you were in downtown L.A. and went just a little south and a lot east you would find it. Been up 99 many a time to visit family in Fresno. See map link below::D

exavid,

Seems we have both been in the same places a couple of times. Possibly even at the same time! I lived in Kennewick when I was a kid from 70-77. Went in the Marines in 77 and never went back, except for short visits.

Paul,

If you wouldn't mind me crashing in on your weekend (for an hour or two) maybe I could ride up and meet you? If not thats OK too. I know that sometimes you just want to get away from things and not worry about trying to hook up with anyone orfigureout where andwhen to meet. You can PM me if you want.

Actually I'll be in your neighborhood week after next (28 Feb-03 March) for a business meeting in Solvang, CA.
