Hi all just joined the club and if you read my intro you will know my GL hasn't run for a LONG time so expecting the worse. However I do know one thing and that is the headers are screwed. They consist of about 90% rust and 10% air. Now I have always hated the std exhaust on the GL I like mine to be heard not overly loud but a nice rumble. Now it doesn't matter what you use for a "silencer" if you don't have good headers you're wasting your time. So does anyone have some good ideas or a readymade solution to my problem and one that is preferably in the UK or Europe. Forgot to say the Bike is a 1980. :praying:

Welcome to the forum.

For what it's worth the 1980 Goldwing was an 1100 and the header/muffler was one piece each side. The last year of the 1000 was 1979.

That said you can widen your search as any headers off a four cylinder Goldwing will bolt to the head and in North America many Harley's leave the dealers with straight pipes, the original unused mufflers can be bought fairly cheap.
Thanks for that info Ken, but my European (Dutch) registration it is first registered in 1980, maybe it was a 79 that sold in 80 could be. My Vin number is 80HONML11056517 so if can glean anything from the chassis number that would be cool. All cars have one that can be looked up so why not Bikes? Ian

Okay Thanks guy's that number is the only one on my documents, I think in the states you call it a pink slip. So until I get over to the bike in Holland I can't check it out, it does say it is struck into the yolk head. Not all that important as it does say K3 and it was first registered in Holland on the 16 of the 6th 1980, so could easily have been an import from say Belgium or Germany, luckily the bikes are not handed ie LHD or RHD. But I do have a Frame number also which is GL2-4016517
