I have recently just purchased a 1997 GL1500SE and still learning the ins and outs. Have changed all fluids including the brakes and clutch. Made a big difference in the brake pedal pressure and travel distance. Very easy to do once you add the speed bleeders. I do almost all my own repairs and upkeep.

I have been riding different motorcycles for about 45 years, mostly Honda's and a few dirt Yamaha's. My last bike which I am still in the process of selling was a ST1300 ABS/TCS. Great bike but a little bit too much to handle at 71 years of age. The Goldwing is a little bit heavier but a more gentle bike. I miss the power but will probably get used to it. No more 100+ in third. The thing that I am most surprised at so far is the poor gas mileage. I seem to be getting around 32 mpg when driving around 75. I live in Lake Forest, CA and to drive less than 75 on the freeways is suicidal. I shift at around 4000 rpm. My ST got around 47 mpg as long as I kept it below 85 and around 42 mpg if I went faster.

I enjoy cruising and fishing. A number of times a year I go to Mammoth Lakes, about 350 miles and go trout fishing. Looking for company if that is also your thing. My wife of 37 years does not like the bike so I travel solo. I usually hotel one day and camp out the other on longer trips, but I am getting a little old for sleeping on the ground. Mostly nowadays I rent a condo. I just love driving and many times I will find an excuse for crossing the mountains on one of the two laners then cross the valley to the Pacific and come home that way. My other rides are to visit my daughter in San Jose. Love the 1 from Morro bay up and the 28 through Hollister. I am pretty amenable about where I go so if you want company drop me a email.

Looking for to meeting you all on the road.

Barry
