Hi everyone. I just found this site and am enjoying it alot. I just got my first Gold Wing. '89 1500 with 52,000 miles. It's always been garaged and the maintenance records are impressive. Very well cared for.

Question is. At cruise speed there is a slight whine and I can't tell where. It's much quieter than any other motorcycle I've ever rode so it is probably normal sounds. It's very much like tire whine. Is this normal? Other than that I really love the smooth quiet power. Too bad the cruise control won't set above 80...just kidding.

Thanks in advance. I'm going to try not to overanalyze everything. :action:

Probably nothing to worry about. My '83 worried me a bit as it whines like a turbine as I go up through the gears, but as I've found out that is normal. Something to do with the internal drive chain I believe.

I think my bike'swhine is more internal than the belts because it buildsm upin frequency and doesn't respond to motor rpms. When I get to cruisin' speed I don't hear it at all.

Could be we're talking about two different sounds.

It's late. Have a good one folks.

Welcome Fatalatraction, just a thought, almost all tires will sing at different speeds and or tire pressure and or load. You are on such a fine bike that you can now hear it. Enjoy your 89, I sure do.

These Dunlop's are built a little different. They have a ridge built in and I think that's what I hear. Hey tthanks for all the responses.

Welcome to the "WBGWS" !

With that said, I'll say I don't know anything about the 1500 but would love to own one !

On certain bikes I've been around (not Gold Wings) I've heard some with a "Clutch Wine " that was harmless but I don't think that would be what it is on a 1500 Wing? but I would run some "Marvel Mystery Oil " through my oil for a few miles than drain it to clean things out, can't hurt !

I had a "Wine/chirp" noise after I changed timing belts (Napa Brand) and it drove me nuts but went away after200 miles ?!
