Hi everyone. I just found this site and am enjoying it alot. I just got my first Gold Wing. '89 1500 with 52,000 miles. It's always been garaged and the maintenance records are impressive. Very well cared for.

Question is. At cruise speed there is a slight whine and I can't tell where. It's much quieter than any other motorcycle I've ever rode so it is probably normal sounds. It's very much like tire whine. Is this normal? Other than that I really love the smooth quiet power. Too bad the cruise control won't set above 80...just kidding.

Thanks in advance. I'm going to try not to overanalyze everything. :action:

Most 1500 have a slight gearbox whine.Due to the straight cut teeth.

Also check rear diff as these whine when worn but at that mileage should be ok as mine went at 100.000miles

I took a little cruise today, about 70 miles and found that the sound is still there even with the clutch pulled in, engine at idle. I'm sure it's a tire whine since it gets less as I coast to a stop.

Thanks for all the replys. I'm sure I'll come up with something else to worry about soon enough...just my nature I suppose.
