Hello, I am a new member to the website- & I am glad I found you guys!

Recently I purchased a 83 Goldwing from my KTM Technician. The bike is mechcanically sound, and I must admit this bike is truly a joy to ride. To my surprise, this thing is faster than my LC4 Duke!!!

First Question:I would like to puta fairing on with a windshield. currently the bike has only a very small ( it looks like a joke ) windshield ( Certainly after, after market). Where can I finda nice Fairing for my bike??? Any suggestions. What do I stay away from?

Second, would also like to get a back rest for the passanger, the kind which isstorage casewith a pad at front (i.e.passagners back). Where ??

Third, i need to get my hands on a very good Technical Manual. Any Suggestions would be greatly appreciated as well.

My,background is MX &supermoto. I have hada hand full of street bikes ( R1, ZX12, RC51, GSXR 750... however, touring on my 83 wing is new to me and my finace. Its an old Wingand I wantto makeita capable touring unit. The $400.00 I paid for it, makes me love it even more!

Any opinions on integration of a radio into the Fairing? Good idea or not? Are there parts available on the market to integrate modern cd players with decent speakers.... Any and all replys are garciously appreciated!

Thanks

Hello Rudeman and welcome to the forum. There are lots of guys here who are more than able to help you out. Is your Goldwing a "Standard" model, ie one that came without faring and luggage in the first place?

The parts you are seeking are not really sold as new. (meaning Honda doesn't make them any more) Your best bet is looking on fleabay (ebay). Do your search "GL1100". This will give you the biggest returns on the things you are looking for.

Do your search now, prices on ebay are very low (because nobody has any money, Xmas and all) Come closer to the summer you will see the prices/bidding go up. To give you a idea, you can get a fairing in January for under 100.00. In the summer your looking at the bidding to go to 200.00 or more.

If you want to get a fairing it sounds like you need all the parts. Brackets, fairing, windshield, wiring harness, turn signals, radio. Sometimes these are sold as one part, sometimes they are not. Keep in mind, these parts are going to be over 20 years old, so watch what you buy. Also keep in mind that you may have to paint these parts because it will take for ever to find the color you want.

There is another option you can do that may please you instead. Look at this site and think it over. http://www.kw-enterprises.com/wing.html

This is a lot to think over so I'll stop here. Let us know which direction you are going and everybody will be more than happy to help guild you.

Rudeman, post a note at this site asking for the parts you described earlier;

A lot of guys at this site remove parts like you want to cut their Wings up and make them into custom Gold Wings. They may just have the parts you want.

Rudeman,

Welcome to the forum! I have an 83 Aspencade and the service manual. Let me know if you have any specific questions I can help you with.

You might be able to find a service manual on EBAY as well as parts.

Hi Rudeman,

I recently bought an 83 GL1100 too, but mine is the Interstate with all the stuff you are looking for. Sorry...not selling any. :)

For the tech manual, I got a copy of the Clymer's manual on Amazon, used, for about $9. It's been very helpful.

Bye the way, what's your location?

Not sure about the exact model. although I think the saddle bags were put on afterwards by the previous owner. Is there a way I can find out what kind of Goldwing it is? Checking Vin#???

Thanks Rud

Thanks for the reply, I'll let you know about the manual. I'm going to see what I can get online, but I know some manuals may be better than others... See what I can find.

Hey there- thanks for the reply. I'm in San Jose CA. I'm glad you like you manual, would you recomend that manual? By the way, do these valves need adjusting?

Best bet on the fairing is get one that has all the pieces to it. Some sell the fairing shell only, which means you need to round up some vents, reflectors, lights, wiring harness, pockets, etc... I saw a new fairing with all the goodies and I forgot to bid on it, it was a cherry fairing taken off a new bike and stored 20 years.

The VIN should be able to tell you, as well as the tag with the VIN on it. Obviously it's not an Aspencade, so it's either a Standard or stripped Interstate.

I love my '83 and you can get everything you want on ebay, just be patient and don't buy the first thing you see. Something good will come by soon enough.

Personally I prefer the facory manual, which is still available.

get a common name manual. Stay away from the computor disc manuals they sell..(they're no help) They are some cheap names manuals but they exclude some information. Thats why I support common names books.

Hi Rudeman i have a GL1000 1975 that i got with an aftermarket fairing, the unit includes the mountings for the headlight and indecators and once the brackets are in place it's a simple job to take the unit of if needed (four bolts and one elecrical connector). The fairing is a Wixom and was also fitted with a unit that accepts a standard sized radio cassete player compleate with ariel the sounds pretty good considering the units over 25 years old!!!!.

Sorry the above are not for sale as i am still getting a HUGE amount of fun from riding the wing after only recently compleating the restoration.

I have just ordered one of those manual on a disk. Description says full service manual and, full parts, list with exploded veiws. I should get it in about 2 weeks. I'll let you know if its any good or not.

Get a Honda factory manual... it's the best one of all, and there are problems with the Clymer manual.

There seem to always be factory manuals on eBay, either in paper form or on disc.

I'd be interested to know how good the CD manual is. I have a parts manual from CDMOTO that is pretty good. I like the exploded drawings in it, sure helps when you can't remember where that spring or screw came from. I usually print out the relevant pages to take to the shop when I'm working on the bike, don't like to get the laptop cruddy.

I just removed a Vetter Windjamer faring from my 83 1100 Standard which was in great shape. I also have the lowers with it. If you are interested, Email me at [email protected]. :? If you keep a close eye on Ebay, you will find almost any thing you could want. Someone listed a 1100 engine today with 12,000 miles and a 900.00 buy it now price. :waving: Dean

I have one of the CDs with the Factory Manual and Factory Parts list. They are both pretty good, with one irritating exception. One can do a text search of the parts manual, but the service manual is a "look at the chapter, find the page, scroll to it" sort of thing.

If anyone is interested, I can probably provide an archival copy of said disc, strictly for the purpose of reviewing the material before purchasing a verified factory manual.
