Last september, my old Yamaha finally bit the dust so went looking for a new bike. Picked up this bike for $1500.00. It was a blue naked 77 gl1000. No one around here really works on these so I bought a manual, read the internet and dove in. I rebuilt the carbs because their was a hesitation at 3700 RPM that drove me nuts. Changed the timing belts, head gaskets, all fluids etc. I found some old bags from a 750 and had some car paint left over so painted my bike and bags to match. At first I did not like it this color, but when I put it all back together, I like it. It is a frost metallic. I just wish I could get the original decals but with this color, not sure how it would look (maybe the red ? ). I've put 13,000 miles on her since I bought it in September 2004 and really like it. One of best parts is everywhere I go, someone always comes over and asks about it and checks it out, which I am sure the guys I ride with who own MUCH more expensive bikes just don't understand.
I hate to take her off the road even for a day or two, but just came back from the Smokies and had some issues so she is now on the jack. Fork seals are leaking. I did strip one of the plugs tho, so if anyone has one to sell, PLEASE contact me ASAP. Putting a new rear tire on her (spitfire), painting exhaust as long as it is off. The brake pedal was sticking to, so I took it off and cleaned that area up.
Anyway, that is my bike. For a long distance ride, I would match the comfort against most anything. I need a new seat, but my old one is so comfortable, I am just taking it in to get it recovered tomorrow. I hate to buy the Corbin and then find I like my old one better.
If anyone lives around middle tennessee and wants to ride, look me up. For that matter, if you are coming to this area from anywhere, look me up. We will go for a ride
