When I created my account, I noticed a message stating I should post something so my account would not be deleted. So here goes. :)

I purchased a 1982 GL1100 Interstate that has ~45,000 miles on it last week. Until now I have been riding a 1974 CB360. I like my 360, but it is getting too cold riding to work in the 45-50 degree Ohio September mornings.

I am a little nervous about the timing belts of my new Goldwing. I have read a lot of posts about changing them. I'm hoping I can get away with riding for a few more weeks and then I'llchange the belts this winter. I noticed a throb or rumble when riding above 65mph. At 55mph or lower the bike runs great. I have also slipped between gears once or twice while riding over the last week. This bike definitely shifts different than the CB360.

The GL1100 also needs to warm up a few minutes in the morning before I can rev it. The bike starts fine, but will hesitate or stall in the 1500 to 2500 rpm range until it is warmed up. Is this normal? I bought a bottle of sea foam to run through the carbs that I'm thinking about adding to the gas tank this weekend.

Add a little of that seafoam to the oil too, run it for a couple of 100 miles then change oil and filter. That will help smooth out the clutch and shifting some. Try something like chevron delo 400e in 10/30w for your area and temps at this time of year. Cold thick oil isn't good for starting or shifting.

As far as the warm up, all these old 1100s needs it more in the winter than in the summer. Usually mines ready to ride by the time i have my gear on.

Welcome dgreene....I used to have a CB 360, until a guy in a pickup pulled out in front of me and I T-boned him...

Anyway... A BIG welcome....:waving:

Yes my 1500is cold natured also. I have to use the choke for a few minutes until it warms up.
I haven't had any problems with my timing belts as of yet. Good Luck.

Howdy from Indiana!

Lots of differing opinions on belts. My take - if you're worried, change 'em. I've seen 1200s with the original belts and 150K on the odo. I've also heard of belts breaking at 60K.

YMMV

Greetings from ND as well. You will get used to all the little ins and outs of your bike in no time. A little work and it will feel like yours. Every year model of every make and model of every bike ever made has some issues. Overall, once you have a Wing, it's difficult to give it up. I keep looking for something better. I'll let you know if I find such a thing.
