Just joined, was looking for info on changing timing belts I have 85 Interstate 29000 miles.

It has started sputtering and poping when first start have new plugs, air filter gas filter and seafoam I think its better but still stutters some times when cold. also kinda smells like gas, it may still have a little seafoam in tank.

Golwings are a cold natured beast.

Keep the RPMs up over 2,000 and some want 2,500 or more to run smoothly. They will not idle worth a darn when cold.

When it is cold, try running it with the choke on. If that helps things, then you know it is a slight mixture problem.... or the carbs need to be sync'd. They will definitely act up at lower RPMs if the carbs are out of sync.

Hello & welcome Jack,
Stockton Ks, guy here... If you smell gas, you may have a sticking float. Take off the air cleaner and make sure no gas is in the plenum. Don't let it get too much gas in crank case, it will thin the oil and is bad news.
Have the carbs been re-built recently? May need it. Search this forum for timing belt replacement. Lots of pics etc here.
