New owner, old Goldwing in Central NY

Have had many bikes over the past 35 years, but this is my first 'Wing. Stopped riding 4-5 years ago as life just got in the way. Searched and picked up an '87 Goldwing a couple weeks ago for what I felt was fair money. Previous owner had it for 23 years and it's an "honest bike". Overall it's in very good condition and is mecahnically sound. Stator was replaced a few years ago, so that's covered. I gave it an oil change once I got it home and bled the clutch and cleaned out the clutch master as it had sludge in the bottom, but never let the master run dry. The clutch does engage "late" but after bleeding enagages more positively and shifting is smoother. Everything works. Compressor, radio, tape deck (yes, I actually have cassettes), brakes are good, no tears in the seat/backrests I suspect because it's always been a garaged. Engine runs very well and is smooth. Little different riding position from my past bikes (2 Harley Touring, Yamaha Venture and Victory Cross Country) but I'm getting used to it. It'll take time to get more acquainted but it's fine to have something to get out in the wind again. Looking forward to learning from the folks on the forum.

you will want to check the output leads from the Stator, there are 3 yellow wires that left the factory with Connectors on them.

those connectors MUST BE eliminated, wires soldered together and heat shrink put over them.

if you don't the stator can suffer overheating and will go bad.

welcome to the forum, and you have a very fine ride

Noted on the stator wires and will check them out. Thanks for the heads up.
Hallo Cainer

Welcome on this nice forum. Wish you al the best.
And good luck with your Wing.
Welcome Aboard.
:)
Another welcome, the 1200 series was my favorite. By all means inspect the stator wire connections behind the left side panel. Think about some fresh timing belts also.
