I will be taking a trip around Lake Erie from Sunday Aug 2 to 4. I will stay in Hamburg, NY on Sunday night. Monday will visit the falls and make my way west along the lake, ending up somewhere north of Detroit. Tuesday will take me south on 23, staying well west of Detroit and turning back east at Toledo to Sandusky.
Is anyone interested in riding some or perhaps just meeting for lunch around the falls?
Boy Scott, it will be great to see you again. It's been too long since our ride home together from NASSIR 1. Don't forget to take your list from Digby and your printout from Rudy for all the emergency numbers of our Goldwing family.
I will be crossing into the great northland (providing the snow is gone) to enjoy some of the good beer and friendly people.
I hear the view is much better from your side as well.
I'm assuming you're crossing over Monday AM. To cross back into the USA north of Detroit would mean a ferry or routing through Sarnia Ontario / Port Huron MI About 4-5 hours of riding from the falls.
I've always found the highways around Niagara nerve wracking due to volume of traffic and the gotta-get-there mentality. The Niagara River Parkway is slower and nicer when you aren't ducking around the lycra cyclists. Niagara on the Lake (NOTL) is quaint and at the north end of the Parkway. From there you can pick up secondary roads to the west end of the province.
I don't know if you're allowing for a lot of sight seeing or if it's a busman's holiday, cranking on the milesbut in either case I'd be glad to meet up with you for a coffee or lunch.
Got the passport covered.
I would like to take a little time to look around and enjoy the scenery, but it doesn't have to be around the falls. The problem with going to a touristy area is that there are so many other places that get missed. If you know of other places to enjoy, I would like a tour guide.
I have always felt that if I try to see everything I miss the true value of the really good stuff. Some of the touristy stuff like Maid of the Mist, Butterfly collection, Floral displays etc are good and the falls always impress. Niagara on the Lake has quaint shops for souvenirs etc. NOTL is a nice ride down the parkway.
Heading west can be superslab or secondaries through wine and orchard country. Following Ridge Road is apopular choice.Pleasant cruising but not the Tail of the Dragon.
Port Dover and Port Stanley are fun beach towns with perch and chips being the local food of choice. Which is better depends on whether you are from Port Dover or Port Stanley.
Unfortunately I have to bow out of this one. On Sunday, Wendy and I are headed to New Hampshire on the wing and won't be back until Wednesday.
Enjoy the falls and ride safe.... Hey D-Rod, if he has time, maybe you and Button Lady could take hom for a ride out to Letchworth State Park, the falls are going great this time of year, maybe take a tour of the dam.
D-Rod & I met up with Scott and his brother TodHPa in Erie, PA and rode for a while together. Tod headed back home and Scott followed us to Hamburg.
We spent the evening talking and enjoying pizza and drinks.
This morning, D-Rod rode with Scott as far as the Peace Bridge to Canada. D-Rod went to work and Scott off to meet up with our Canadian friends.:action:
Scott - have a safe trip and stop back any time. :waving:
