North Central Florida mechanic needed

Is there anyone in or around the Gainesville FL that will work on a 1984 Aspencade? I bought a bike and need to figure out why it wont charge. If the stator is bad, I assume the whole engine needs to be pulled.

Thanks,
David

It might be less expensive to add a "Poor Boy " alternator system . This is a small car alternator with brackets and pulley that mount to the front of the engine . If you do a search on the forum I am sure you will find more info .

I should have added , check for a plug located beside the battery box ,which has 3 yellow wires . This is a common failure point . The plug will go bad and not make good connection . It will overheat and possibly melt the plastic plug . The fix for this is to cut the plug out and solder the wires together sealing them with heat shrink tubing.

Thats not always the cure but it can be some times .

If you're lucky it could be a regulator / recifier. Not a cheap item but not hard to change. There is a check-out procedure on the forum.

I you're really lucky it could be a loose wire.

While I hesitate to reccomend a Honda dealership, the Honda Lake City used to have an old mechanic who was good with 1200s. Don't remember who told me that or his name, but might be worth making a phone call.
