Not firing on rear cyclinders

My 86 goldwing 1200 is not firing on the rear two cyclinders. I just bought the motor cycle and I did not realize this till I got it home. I thought it might just be the carbuerator needed cleaning. The dealer says they don't work on cycles this old. Please help!:(

Mostly likely a bad coil or connection to the coil..pull the plug wires, pull the plugs putt them back int he wires lay on engine casing and turn her over there should be a spark..nice white and fat if not..no spark.equals bad coils, bad connection at coils or pulser(points) issue.

The pulser points. Is that the same thing as the igniters. I'm sorry, I'm just learning about these.

Pulser..spark generator replaces old style points on Goldwings in 80..igniters are a separate item. Check the manual look in section 15..

Okay, I will. If it is the coil or pulser, are they hard to change out? And one more question, where is the best place to buy parts. Online or at my dealer?

You can down-load a manual from the Reference/FAQ section of this forum. In the same section there's a post about parts and spares suppliers. I know it's daunting some times BUT, I'd be very aprehensive about buying parts from any dealer that refused to work on my vehical.



You can get to the coils by removing the Top Cover(faux gas tank), it might just be a loose connection. There are two coils, each one fires a pair of spark-plugs. One coil for the front cylinders, and another for the rear.

Neither are too hard ..coils real easy..just have to remove false tanks and couple of bolts and connections..pulse generator a little more involved but not too bad.

I had a what I though was a carb problem on one of my 81 GL1100's found a connector loose under false tank, check and make sure all connectors are firmly seated.
