AZ,

Would seafoam help clean the carbon off of the Neutral Swich in the front of a 1980 GL1100? I read where it said you could safely add 1 and 1/2 ounces to each quart, which would be 6 ounces. My neutral has started staying on all the time, and Brighter in netural. It come on once before this, but after I put in the Chevron Delo 15w40, after about 12-1500 miles, It started coming and staying on. I have anotherswitch in my parts bile which I was thinking about removing, cleaning, and putting it onmy Goldwing, figuring the best would be better. What are your thoughts? What about after draining the oil, and cleaning the netural switch by directly spraying it on the netural switch? (One of my old bossed once told me i would stay on a job for an hour to try to make it 15%more efficent) lol

I don't know but it might. The stuff does have some good cleaning properties to it. Why not give it a try and see.

Maybe when you are planning a day ride and then change the oil after a few hundred miles?

I left it in my bike for quite a while if I recall right. A week or maybe more, didn't document it. That would have 40 miles/day at a minimum to work and back.

It stopped the clutch from slipping on mine.

I think I will try it. 6 oz in the oil, and 1/2 in the rest of a full tank, run the tank out, then change the oil. It will have to get warmer though. I have not had too much luck with cold weather, (And Mike, and I don't want to push it, Promise!)

Just of interest (to me anyway), my car was running pretty rough and I wasn't sure if it was bad gas or bad spark plugs.

Anyway, I still had the can of seafoam that I won in the NASSIR1 aution so I poured the whole thing in and filled the car with gas.

Within 40 miles the car is purring like a kitten again.

Whatever the reason for the rough running, seafoam once again has worked. :)

The MSDS sheet on seafoam states that it is:

40-60% pale oil ( a thin mineral oil)
25-35% naphtha (camp stove fuel but a good solvent)
10-20% I P A ( or Isopropyl Alcohol , common rubbing alcohol)

All fairly benign substances,but only the Isopropyl alcohol would be alien to fuel. Gasoline and naphtha are very similar in chemistry, in fact naphtha is often referred to as white gas. The pale oil is most likely a carrier andwould be unlikely to contribute to cleaning fuel systems but could add a bit of upper cylinder lubrication. The I P A is most likely the most effective cleaner, since it will dissolve a variety of water born and petroleum compounds, much like acetone, but less harsh on fuel system components.

I'm not trying to discredit Sea Foam, merely understand the science verses the snake oil.

I had my '82 Wing on a lift and I was under it when I accidentally knocked over a can of Sea Foam with about 6 ounces left in it, and it fell in my mouth. I got most of it out but inevitably some went down the gullet. 2 hours later my member was so hard, a cat could'nt scratch it. I threw away the rest of my Viagra.

But on a more serious note...........I really don't care about the science behind seafoam, I just know it works for me and many others and that's the important part for me. :)

Just started reading today. More info for those of you out there.

Sea foam is one of the greatest things in the world for vehicles of all types. We had the rep from Chicago at my store a few years ago and he was amazed that we didn't know more about it. Up until then it was a Napa only product. As you all know it is petroleum so it is safe in anything with oil or fuel. I run it in my lawn mower and both my vehicles.

For a gas car or truck thesis what the rep told us to do.

Get your vehicle up to operating temp. Unhook the vacuum line from your brake booster. With the vehicle running pour a third to half a can in the hose by stalling the engine. This pulls it into the upper intake and that area of the engine. Turn off and let it sit for 20 or 30 minutes. Pour the rest Hal and half into our oil and then your gas. Start it p and then go for a burn,preferably not in our neighbourhood. I had a plume of smoke that covered two whole blocks. Dropped two hundred rpm on the idle of my Jimmy. Works great.

One of my old coworkers put it in his 80 Goldwing and cold hardly sit at the stop sign the smell of it cleaning out his engine was so strong.

This will be the first thing I add when I fill up for the first time.
