Has anyone encountered a problem with an ocasional ticking noise? I bought this bike used in '87. I had the belts changed about '95. Not long after that it started to make a ticking noise that sounded like a lifter and then go away. I bled the lifters twice then replaced them. I just changed the belts again. No luck. Any suggestions???

GL1200 Service Bulletin #8
dealt with a noise described as ticking coming from either cylinder head. It was caused by excessive tension on the rocker shafts. A brief descriptions is here:

Could be this or maybe worn shafts or rockers. Considering the bike is 27 years old it could be a lot of things... but this is a possibility.

Thanks for the reply. But this is an ocasional thing. I could ride for a hour and not do it once. Or it may do it after five minutes. But it only lasts for a few seconds and stops. Very strange.
