Has anyone ventured to crack open their speedo unit to replace the plastic odometer gear? People do this on cars/bikes, i've read, on other forums.Thoughts?

mag,
The plastic gear on the front wheel runs out of grease and wears out. The Honda dealer may try to sell you a complete drive for $75, but if you get into the front wheel and find everything else OK, the gear only can be purchaced for around $15. I had to tell the dealer I just wanted the gear.

Thanks, John. I actually meant the speedo gauge. But i've just found out that the gauge internal parts are stamped out, and thus not individually replaceable.

In many areas automotive instrument shops repair speedometers and such. You might check around in your area, Vancouver is certainly large enough to have such a shop.
