If all works out I should be in South Pennsylvania this evening and spend a day or two visiting the Civil War battle sites and memorials, Mannasas and Antietam in particular.

If you see a silver 1500 with a dark Windbender windshield and Ontario plate feel free to wave. :action::waving:

362 Miles later and I'm parked at the Best Western in Breezewood PA. Nice trip down but I had one of those brain [email protected] moments when the bike wouldn't start this AM. I was about to start tearing things apart when I noticed the kill switch had been bumped while messing around loading.

Crossed the border at Buffalo no problems and no lineup. Down through the Allegheny State Park and across to St marys PA for lunch.

Plans are to see Mannasas tomorrow. Also on the list is Antietam and maybe the Skyline Drive.

Sounds like a good trip so far. Enjoy the rest of it. Watch out for deer on Skyline Drive. That's were Johnboy (aka Deerslayer) got his on his way to Calhoun.

Gettysburg,Pa. is a wonderful place to visit when it comes to Civil War history.

You should go to Appomatox if you can. Great Civil War history there as well.

If you have the time, this week is Thunder in the Valley in Johnston, Pa. Starts Thursday and ends Sunday. Most bike usually there on Saturday for parade. Budweiser Clydesdales are supposed to be there also.

A good day except a two second near encounter with a deer on 15 north of Leesburg. Fortunately no contact and I did pack spare underwear.

Fifteen minutes later a car pulled up next to me at a stoplight in Leesburg, rolled down his window and asked if the deer startled me. I guess he was right behind me.

I got a sampling of the battlefields at Manassas and Antietam today. There is so much history there that one would need days just to grasp the concept of the war.

Without the monuments the fields would look just like typical farmland but at Antietam the death toll was 6000 soldiers in one day. I imagine that after this bloody war the survivors just wanted to put things behind them and went back to farming the land that ran red with blood. Much of the battlefield at Antietam is under cultivation. I seems a wise chioce. Letting it lie fallow would change the original landscape and the only other option would be to build on it.

Tomorrow I may head south again and see part of the Skyline Drive. Hopefully the deer will stay in the bush. Deer belong in one of two places, in the bush or on the plate. :action:

Glad you are having a great trip. Tricky and I had our run in with the deer at about 6 Pm which was getting close to dusk in september.I was told by locals that that is when they start to come out.The skyline is a federal no hunting area so the buggers have no fear.We saw them just standing in scenic lookouts.I guess it's the one you don't see that causes the problem.Tricky had a close encounter with a black bear so be double careful. Have a great trip.

This happened about 10 ish in the morning but I agree that they are thicker in the dawn and dusk hours. Even in the cage they are nerve wracking as they pop out of nowhere.

Well I got back home in one piece. Hit a bit of rain in New York but no problems. Now to start looking at maps again. 1523 miles.
