That is a little on the thick side. Honda specs 10w-30. The much more important thing is that the oil is rated for motorcycle use with a wet clutch. Many additives can cause the clutch to slip. Never use resource conserving oils. Make sure the bottom of the API donut is blank.

Many riders have been using Shell Rotella oil for many years and thousands of miles in their bikes. Meets or exceeds ALL Honda specs and is easy to find and relatively cheap compared to some other alleged motorcycle specific oils. And it is NOT just a Diesel oil but used for many engines.

I have been using the Delo 400 SDE 15W-40 in the blue jug I buy at Wal Mart for years now with no problems. Used it in my 1500s, and 1800. My `98 S.E. had 232K miles last time I saw it. Original engine never opened up, and still running and shifting great.
Old wives tale that Diesel specific oil causes clutches to slip.

Second that on the Delo 15w40 dino oil.. My 88 @ 125k miles was shifting the best on that when i sold it and I told the new owner not to even bother trying anything else. The last couple of years was the smoothest it had shifted in the 10 yrs i owned it.
I had used Shell 5w40 Synthetic for a few years and the tranny started to hate it with a passion. It would barely downshift and i thought it was done for.
I tried many other brands with no success. Even Honda.

Welcome. If you are in a very hot climate, maybe. I use 20~50 (Valvoline Motorcycle Oil) in the summer months here in Arizona, but I revert back to 10~40 when it cools off. Where do you live?
These days, most "experts" say a thinner oil is better at start up, and there is logic to that. Mostly you want to make sure your oil is wet clutch compatible.

Somebody mentioned 15w50 here or the other site, don't remember - I might try that in the 1100 if I can find some (has a wrist-pin knock), that might quiet her some more and I can get another 10 or 20k miles out of her.

I tried 20w50 once, starter clutch didn't like that one bit when cold!

Same here, running T6 5w40 in my 1800 and pulled a trailer most of the time.

Clutch works the same today as always
