Make the oil dip stick accessable without removing tupperware. I check it once a week but it would be less of a pain if I didn't have to remove two pieces of plastic on my GL1500.

_____ Checking oil on a car.

01) Unlock and opencar door.

02) Open the car door.

03) Reach down under the dash and pull thehood release.

04) Walk to the front of said vehicle and undo the hoods safety latch.

05) Raise hood.

06) Set hood prop in place.

07) Pulloil dipstick.

08) Grab rag to wipe dipstick.

09) Check oil level. (do what you need to do)

10) Replacedipstick.

11) Unhook hood prop from hood.

12) Secure said hood prop onto holding clip.

13) Close hood.

_____ Checking oil on a 1500 Wing

01) Put bike on center-stand.
02) Pop battery cover off.
03) Pop right engine cover off.
04) Unscrew dipstick
05) Grab rag to wipe dipstick. (do what you need to do)
06) Replace dipstick.
07) Pop on engine cover.
08) Pop on battery cover.

To me,it's much easier to check my bikes oil than my van/car.

Knowing I'm going for an "open air" pleasure ride,
is much more satisfying. ;)

:action:Ride on.

I only have to remove the engine cover to check the oil on my 1800.

Maybe you should upgrade since Honda listened to you.

By the way new to me is 1981 GL1100i what happened to the site glass. I don't like that chrome thing in front of the radiator. I have to remove it to change the oil , right?

Know its new taste and be loyal, you'll know when to change that oil.
Taste testing as them miles flow, souring as those acids grow.
And don't flirt with dirt or darkened oil, all the faster your engine will spoil.
If that soured oil turned to paste, new motors cost plenty, such a waste.
If friends find out your *size be chaste*(chastised). Best get to it, with undue haste!

I wish I had a dipstick instead of that stupid siteglass on my 82.
That dipstick is an aftermarket item available from JC Whitney for $25.
It does have to be removed to change oil but it's not a problem and a HUGE improvement over that damn sightglass.

Does anyone use the dipstick kit on their bike in place of the siteglass....If so, what do you think of it....What are the advantages and disadvantages of the dipstick kit?
Doe it interfere with changing oil, etc....I am not sure how the dipstick kit is attached to the bike. ken collins

I check my GL's oil about once a month. My GL1500 has NEVER used a drop of oil between 5K mile oil changes. So if I don't see a puddle of oil underneath it, I'm not very worried about checking it too much...
