Just put the plug back in and forget about it Ted. You might need a wrap of plumbers tape on the threads of the plug to be sure it doesn't leak.

The bolt in question is straight thread with a crush washer for sealing so plumbers/Teflon tape will not help.

TDSTILES, any relation to a John Stiles that used to race flat track (east of Fayetteville, can't remember the name of the place) way back when?

You won't need plumbers tape on the bolt, unless you lost the crush washer in the old oil.
