The length of filter should not matter as it is filled with oil. It adds a touch of oil capacity due to increased size, but has no effect on the motor. I assume you partially fill the filter first when you install it?
You might have another issue going on.

And yes, that is what the light does. It should light up when you turn the key on and the motor not running (no pressure).

Nope- it will not affect the pressure.
A lot of people like to use the longer filters as they have more media and can hence hold more dirt. Well, the factory says change the oil what, every 8k miles or something silly like that? I figure if the stock length filter is factory rated to be ok for that many miles, then me changing it every 3k or so is far from running in to a dirt clogging issue. And a bit less dexterity needed to change it. If the short filter gets so much crud in it in one change cycle than I figure I have something to repair.
