My thought exactly, if it were in a more protected area it would be great, but the thought of losing the oil because of a long cantilevered pipe fatiguing or cracking from vibration or road debris would make me nervous. Also the price seems a bit much for what you get.

I don't mind at all exavid . Its different , I'm eventually going to try it though . I'll carry my oil plug along also , just in case .

I like the idea Z, one thing I'd wonder about would be how long it would be before the plastic tube becomes stained and hard to see the oil level. If the tube material is available to replace when needed it looks like it'd be easy to change. The only thing I don't like about it is that thing is cantilevered out there a good long ways. I hope the bottom tube is made of some thing that will break instead of the casting it's screwed into.

It looks nicely designed, but I'd be real concernined about a stone taking it out. A dipstick would be more practical.

I had to have it. it is really cool. Especially if you own an older bike and want to make sure your oil is in good condition.

There was a NOS oil site glass for 1100 and 1200 on Ebay. It sold for $100.01 !!!:byebye:

I'd have to agree with exavid that the thing is neat looking, but also fragile looking. It would be too easy to break it off I would think. And it might take part of your engine case in the process. I'll stick to my dipstick.:grinner:

My bike has high miles..70 k now but it is in showroom condition. It really is like it was in 1981 when it was built. I dont think I run it in bad enuff areas to worry about taking out the site glass. For me too see the condition of the engine oil daily is worth the price of that gadget It was really babied by the P/O and I want to keep it that way. so for myself I think It's a wise purchase.

I don't think the sight glass is the weak part, it's a good strong plastic, I just don't like seeing that much weight cantilevered out from the engine on such a long arm. I envision the thing cracking from vibration and snapping off where it screws into the engine. But don't mind me, I come from years of maintenance and am always suspicious of something that doesn't weigh ten pounds with three braces on it. If I'd designed the Goldwing it would probably weight 1500lbs. If I had one I'd shorten the bottom tube so that the glass just cleared the oil filter housing.

Didn't the 1100 have a site glass built in? lower right hand side by foot brake.. I always liked them better then dip sticks.

Yes it does have a site glass but you have to find level ground and put on the centerstand and get down on your knees to check it. I don't mind on my 83 as it does not use any oil so it is not checked but once a day at most.:hovering:

I'll let you guys know if this thing ends up being a good idea or not I'm gonna try it out. I'll probably install it on my next oil change.
