Or so the newspaper in the neighboring town says. I saw a front page article claiming the sheriff was concerned about ongoing issues with the Mongols. I hadnt heard a thing till I saw the article. The town is only 8 miles away, and is wheremy gym is, so I am there frequently...

Here's a wiki about them.

"In 2002, members of the Mongols and the Hells Angels had a confrontation in Laughlin, Nevada at the Harrah's Laughlin Casino, that left three bikers dead. Some police intelligence reports indicate that the Mongols initiated the confrontation to bolster their status.[5] Mongol Anthony Barrera, 43, was stabbed to death, and two Hells Angels, Jeramie Bell, 27, and Robert Tumelty, 50, were shot to death. On February 23, 2007, Hells Angel members James Hannigan and Rodney Cox were sentenced to two years in prison for their respective roles in the incident."

Something to do with this, perhaps?:baffled:

I look at patch wearers like I look at Grizzly bears.....from a distance if possible, with a good pair of binocs. I won't bother them if they don't bother me, and I take all steps to make sure our contact is minimized. If they pull in to a campground, say, we leave.... instantly. I don't hang out in biker bars, and I don't try to "be cool" around them; I don't pretend to be something I'm not.... If I have to, I speak to them softly and with the respect I'd show anyone else. Most of the time, they are preoccupied with each other.

We think we've noticed, however, that they are friendlier to Wingers than they used to be -- the people they really despise are the weekend Harley biker wannabe! "The bad-arse dentist or lawyer with his freshly laundered do-rag wrapped around his silly head! They hate those guys, and, in truth, I don't like them much, either!

I don't know if they are still around, but for over 25 years we lived 4 blocks from the Bandios,a 1% group, my kids attended the same schools as thier kids and rode the same buses every day, they used to be the "bad boys" of motorcycling in Texas. I rode my bike un-molested because I didn't mess with them. The only time I had any kind of a problem with them was thru a new probate member who wanted to take my colors away from me. The head guy told them that at that time I was a state officer in the Texas Motorcycle Road Riders Association and that if they wanted to have to wear helmets, mess with me if not leave me alone, at that time I was going to our state capital, along with many others, trying to get the helmet law re-wirtten.

Now I wonder if I did a good thing or a bad thing about the helmet laws then ???? But bottom line.....I like cousin jack now will avoid as much contact with "patch" wearers....Times have changed and some of these outlaw bikers are far worse than they were a few years ago..

Not all patch wearers are outlaw or 1% types. Riding clubs, owners clubs and such also have patches. No reason to shun someone just because they have a patch on.

Liljack. I was a "patch" wearing member of a motorcycle club for several years. Our goals were to promote family oriented type riding, mom , pop and things on our rides for the kids to do while we rode these tours...We raised monies for fallen bikers and many many charitable organizations, like the Texas Lions Camp, School supply runs for needly children, The one that I had to quit riding on was the toy runs to the various orphanages we sponsored....I have won many 50-50 drawings were I gave the money back to where what ever charitable group got all the money...

Once we heard that after a few of our fellow riders had been transported by Life Flight, that even thou our people had insurance, there were those that didn't....so we had a huge Life Flight Ride.....We raised over $200,000 dollars in money and pledges from several business were our members worked.....Both from our club and other club members. That ride was a great ride, Life Flight flew out to where we were having this ride and a famous Houston Dr. came with them Dr. Red Duke....He rode a couple of bikes, drank a couple of beers, and pigged out on the BBQ....

So not all patch wearers are bad just the ones that want to be the "bad boys" of biking....They have been around since Harley built its first bike..and will be around till there are no more motorcycles, then they will move on to other means of transportation.....

Final thought ......there are motorcycle CLUBS.....And there are motorcycle GANGS.....there is a big difference between them........

Claude

PS...... One of the many patches I wore on my vest along with my AMA and TRMA patches over those years was my CMA patch I wore it with pride and maybe soon when all the dust settles I'll find another chapter of the Christian Motorcycle Association.......

RedBaron, you're right there are differences.

I am a patch wearing member of a riding club, wear my vest just about everytime I ride. Will be wearing it tomorrow when we ride to a festival in Louisiana. Not trying to be want-to-be bad boy, if I was I wouldn't be riding a wing<g> Been a member of the riding club going on 6 years now and enjoy it and the friendships I've made from it.

Outlaw Biker Pukes were a part of my childhood in Detroit. They always wore their lock-and-chain around their shoulders on their way to a RUMBLE over their territories & such.

If they ever did much harm, it was to each other.

Now days, they're into drugs & profits, so their territories are defined by competition in the drug market. They laugh at my Goldwing, so let 'em whack each other.

Why would a sheriff in Podunk care about some outlaws stickin' each other?? Or was it just a slow news day?

Its a small town. its always a slow news day.

My point in the first post, is that no one knew about it till the article came out...
