Hey guys,

My bride is thinking she wants passenger arm rests and I know there are some that do not interfere with opening the trunk...

Does anyone know what brand these would be that do not interfere with opening the trunk

Thanks,
Les

It's not kuryakyn. Should narrow it down some.

I had a set of Hopnel's on my 1500 which worked well. I see they have a model for the 1800 - here's a link: https://shop.donnellsmotorcycles.com/hopnel-passenger-armrest-detail.htm?productId=25834042 (Part No. 52-677A) Mine bolted to the antenna mounts, but I see these bolt to the passenger grab handles.

The dealer had only Kuryakyn in stock when I bought my 1800, so I went with them. They look nice, but my wife complains that they are not as comfortable because the top surface is hard plastic - not cushioned. Also, moving them out of the way to open the trunk is a pain. I'd go with Hopnel's or something similar if I had it to do over.

Some individual was making padded covers for those once upon a time, with draw strings to tie them on. I don't remember who. Wouldn't be hard to make for someone who sews.

BIG-BIKE-PARTS/Show Chrome P/N: 52-677A_GL1800_ARMRESTS

I installed a set on my 2003 in 2011.

I've ridden 84,000 miles in those seven years in all kinds of weather. They have held up quite well and have no evidence of rust. The nylon washers that they pivot on are original and have not yet deteriorated. If they do, it is a simple matters to replace them with some 1/4" ID nylon washers. they are readily available at most well equipped hardware store.

There is one thing that may be a problem for installation, one reviewer with a 2012 GL1800 stated "The left side won't fit due to the heated seat/backrest control knob for the passenger. The bracket, to match the holes for the seat, sits tightly against the knob...". There may also be fitment problems if there is a control of some sort on the right too. I have no such knobs so it was not an issue for me.

Honda OEM Passenger Armrests are Great

The Honda OEM passenger armrests are great. They look great and are very functional.

They mount in place of the speaker top pads and not on swing-out arms to they don't get in the way of anything including opening the trunk.

They have a very sturdy mounting system that tucks out of sight but is very strong. Passengers can lift themselves up to adjust their seating position by pressing down on them with their elbows and not budge them at all.

My wife loves them. Easy to use as armrests and don't get in the way of mounting and dismounting either.

I'll attach some pics of mine installed.

Yep, like second nature. Wife loves them on both .

When I bought / ordered via phone Utopia drivers back rest, they also made me a pair of matching elastic hem armrest covers.

I have this style on my Trike. After years of the swing out type, My wife likes these the best. They never get in her way or mine and they are solid!!

I do not believe these are available for a GL1500. They are for the 2001 to 2017 GL1800.
