I think drknobs and 93wing are correct. Sitting bolt upright does puts pressure on the spine, hips and buttocks. I find I am constantly shifting my legs and backside on long rides. I have been attributing my discomfort to my 25 year old seat, but I think I may need to do some seat/backrest adjusting.

I am not a doctor, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night! :D

I agree with Dancinbear it's the width of the bike that puts the pressure on the hips.

It's funny, I can not drive a vehicle without the seat leaned back, it just hurts my lower back too much. (although my wife drives with the seat straight up, go figure)I find myself leaning forward then leaning back while piloting the bike, but then again It's hard for me to keep still for any length of time. I always just made beleive it was an F-16 with the 30 degree lean to the seat......:shock:I also find that I have to move my head on a regular basis, no not just watching out for idiots trying to kill me, but the extra weight of the helmet and light buffetting cause my neck to ache a little.

I think we all have hit on some truth, we all have different size, shape bodies and it seems as though CJ has found a bike that fits him superbly!

Good work young man, good work!!!!!!!

Oh and one other thing I learned by accident. On long trips in the cage I was constanttly getting back aches. I took my wallet out one time for something and didn't put it back, and lo and behold, no back pain at the end of the trip, so when we are headed out of town the wallet goes into the center console.......

Great idea, maybe that's why these fellows with the new 1800s are so comfortable. Their wallets are flat.:cooldevil:

I find that the sitting position on my gl1000 is more comfy for me than the 1500 for that very reason. Forces me to lean forward slightly. On the 1500, after a few miles I have to lean forward to easea stiff back. Sometimes ride for miles leaning forward, just can't ride too long because of the arm position.

Too bad we don't have some doctor on here that could explain that one to us. I have often wondered about that myself. Although I can't ride leaning forward anymore, without the backrest I probably would not be able to ride long that way either. The back rest makes a difference for me now. Hope we find out if there is really an answer to that.:?
Isn't Rodger a docter:baffled:
No, but he slept in a Holiday Inn last night.

I do believe Rodger is an osteopath which is a D.O. Not to mention a good doctor of Goldwings after seeing his vintage 'Wing at Calhoun.
