Please clarify carb synch process

Hi All,
I have read thru the really nicely done carb synch process.

but am confused by the last synching step of #4 to #3 (below, in bold).

"Once you have carburetor #1 and carburetor #3 balanced, adjust carburetor #2 to match carburetor #4. The carburetor #2 sync adjuster is located between carburetor #2 and carburetor #4. Don't worry about making carburetor #2 match carburetor #1 or carburetor #3 at this point, just make sure carburetor #2 is set to match carburetor #4.

Once carburetor #2 and carburetor #4 match, adjust carburetor #4 to match carburetor #3 - essentially at this point you are balancing the left cylinders against the right cylinders. The adjuster for carburetor #4 is located just to the rear of it."

Why is #2 not synched independently to #3? It would seem that the final synching of #4 to #3 will now make #2 out of synch with the others. Does step 20 imply that #2 should be tweaked?

I searched thru past posts looking for this same question, no luck. Anyone?

Thanks!

What is written is correct and the easiest way to do it. If you balance #2 with #3 then when #4 is synched you'll have to do #2 again.

sounds weird but it is true follow the instructions to the letter.

Like Tim and Jason above said follow the instructions.
You may be confused or unaware that 2 and 4 are tied together at this point and when you adjust 4 to 3 you are actually adjusting 4 and 2 to 3 and 1.
Once you're done it will make more sense.

If you buy a Manometer.you should be ok. It is worth the $80. Took me a couple minutes. All carbs sync to #4.

#4 is supposed to be the calibrating carb. It is not adjustable on my GL1200.

#3 on an 1100 is the base carb.

Cylinder #3 is the baseline carb for the 1100's, which he has. #4 is the baseline carb for the 1200's.

It usually takes a couple "rounds" of synching to get it right. After the first synch, I reset the idle to 800 +- 50, then resynch again.

Thanks all,
I didn't know that 2 & 4 were tied together. It all makes sense now.

I am putting together my own manometer; have got 4 gauges from Mc-Carr, the aquarium pump valves and now just waiting for the adapters to arrive for final assembly.
Cheers!
