I have a 2003 Honda Goldwing GL1800. I have up graded the orig. speakers to Pioneer 100 watt. It is still not putting out the sound that I am looking for. So my questions are: where can I go to find out what kind of stereo it has, should I install a different radio or should I install a amp? PLease email me at [email protected] or post in here.

Thanks

OK...I'll start.

I believe that Panasonic still makes the radios, but they are propriatery.

Installing an amp may be your best answer, you can get an amp with "High Level Inputs" that means that it accepts the higher voltage signal from the speaker outputs.

You have to watch your total electrical power consumption vs. output when sizing your audio system.

If you're missing the bass kick, it doesn't matter how much power you push into the system, the only way to get bass is by adding a sub-woofer, I've got an idea for that, but you'd loose most of your trunk space, may not work with Hondas CD player either.

Now for the reality check.

Motorcycles are inheirently dangerous. Averting your attention or causing a diversion of senses can lead to a fatal accident.

I am not wanting it for the bass. When I am going down the interstate at 70 mph I can not hardly hear the stereo. I also am tring to find out how many on's and how many watts this radio puts out.

:clapper::clapper:Welcome to the Best Goldwing Site on the Internet deltaqueen!:clapper::clapper:

I'm surprised your stereo output is inadequate. My previous stock 1986 1200 and my current 1993 Aspencade with OEM audio are completely adequate at 80mph using the speakers.

You may want to check the minimum wattage required to drive the upgraded speakers. It's possible that the stock amp just doesn't have the oomph. Also, you may want to check that when you installed the new speakers that they were not wired out of phase, meaning that the same wires are connected to the same terminals on both speakers. If they are out of phase they can actually cancel each other out. One cone rises as the other cone relaxes, and the wavelengths are offset by 180 degrees, thereby reducing the amplitude of the wave, hence, less volume. This sounds crazy, but it actually happens, and the speakers don't need to be facing each other. If you are sitting at the approximate convergence of the sound waves from each speaker, that's enough for you to notice this phenomenon. It's worth checking anyway, because most speakers nowadays are very efficent and will work well with low-wattage amps. The primary function of higher wattage is greater sound pressure levels without distortion, but 4 watts can drive a speaker loud enough to make your ears bleed.

Here's another possibility. I may be wrong about this but I recall reading somewhere that Honda's audio system uses a 3 Ohm configuration. If your new speakers have an 8 ohm rating, that may be too much resistance. Might have better luck with 4 ohm speakers. Just a few thoughts. I'm sure there are a few Gurus out there that know more about this subject than I.

I have an 1800 and anything over ten blows your helmet off. Are you talking about sound from the speakers. With bike in neutral set the sound level you require and set AVC. This then maintains that level of sound relevant to your speed. :coollep:

If your sound is low or muffled, check the mute.

I fitted a Belinea 70x2 Watt amp in the space the vanity kit fits in the boot so that it powers the rear speakers (Pioneers) sounds good :D
