Hi all,

My 88 1500 had a flat spot and surge problem. I talked to a mechanic and he said the cap resistors could be causing the problem. He said the caps just unscrews from the wire. NOT! I broke the #2 and #4 plug wires, destroyed the boot on the #2 trying to fix it and now I can't find the cap 2 ignition wire. It's no longer avalible.I looked to see if I could use one of the other wires but #2 has to bend around a hose, the boot angles forward around the hose. Anyone out there know where I can get one or, have another idea? Thanks for any and all help! I have 2 diferent part #30752-mn5-000 30752-mt8-601

If you can't find those, you can try fleabay for a full set of coils and wires. I sold a complete set last summer for 20 bucks.

After you get the wire situation done, your flatspot is common on 88-89. There's a TSB on it. Some people use a trigger wheel to mask the flat spot hesitation. Good luck.

I was told by the head mechanic @ our honda dealership, that ALL models of Goldwings plug caps unscrew off.... :?:?

The part that snaps onto the sparkplug unscrews from the plastic housing inside the boot, the wire enters in the other end and there is a small washer with a hole. The wire goes through the hole, and is soldiered to the washer. So you have the spark plug cap, a spring, resistor, and the washer w/the wire soldiered to it, all inside a brown plastic housing inside the rubber boot. Unless I'm missing something,:( I don't see how the cap unscrews from the wire without breaking the wire.

Maybe we are talking about 2 different things,I was talking about the spark plug cap unscrewing.
I have never replaced any but I had asked my mechanic right before I ordered a set for my brother-n-law.

Mine doesn't look like that at all. Thatboot looks like it's plastic. The only thing that is plastic on mine is what holds just the cap, spring resistor and wire inside a rubber boot. I don't have a camera to send a picture. sorry. The rubber boot has a flange around it . when it snaps on the plug, the flange seals out dirt etc..Thats the best I can explain it

You can get most every part especially plug caps and boots and alot of other OEM stuff from Cheap Cycle Parts , i just ordered one a couple of weeks ago. they have the best prices also. as far as plug wires go a goldwing mechanic told me to go to the auto parts store and get a set of the old style copper plug wires for an older car and replace the old ones with the copper, you have to cut them to fit but he also said not to use the new plug wires that are not copper they do not work as well.

I just picked up a set of coils and plug wires off e-bay from a 99 1500. Looks real good. $10.00. The plug cap doesn't unscrew from the wire. Ifit does, you have a broken wire. Thats on my 88 1500. The coils, wires and capsI just got from the 99look the same as the 88
