I went the poorboy route after 2 stators installed by myself and 1 under warrantee by the dealer. A few regulators along the way. Poorboys has worked fine for 13 or 14 years. Is hidden and people are surprised when I show then the alternator. I wish I had done it the first time I pulled the engine and replaced the stator. Yes, soldered and everything did not prevent more problems.

Well, I've shopped all the suppliers witin about 100 miles of Fairfield, TX and can't find a pully with a metric bore. I'm about to order one from the UK, unless anyone can lead me to one stateside. I'm looking for either a 3.5" or 4" pully with a 12mm bore, that uses an "A" v belt.

Try: McMaster-Carr

It's hard to believe you can't find a pulley that's all metric with the amount of import cars in use. The listing above may not show exactly what you are looking for, but search the site or give them a phone call on Monday.

This is where I get most of my steel/aluminum stock and bolts.

You can brows it and pick up some relevant posts of it. If not then pick up other kits which suits your vehicle, as i don't have any personal experience of having a kit that's why I can recommend you any.

Well, I guess I pulled te trigger to quickly. I ordered a pully from the UK, then learned that their shipping had been shut down from a cyber attack. it may be months before i get it here. Where is McMaster-Carr located?
If you really want one from uk i can get it for you and post on using ups, not much dearer than post office

I thought the aftermarket alternators were equivalent to or superior to stock.
why did you last so little time?

Plenty of social media sites are available which provides best discounts and budget friendly deals to their customers, do reach them out and find an appropriate kit.
What makes you think you need one? I'd be willing to bet more than 50% of those installed weren't needed.
And, replacing the stator is probably easier than altering the bike for any car alternator kit.
I thought you have to pull the engine to get the stator out and replace it- thus the poor boy.
Am I incorrect?

May I ask how you get the power from the alternator back to the bike? Do you just go from the alternator lead to the battery positive termal? I'm nervous about doing that.

How else would you do it?

If anyone is in need of a 4" Vbelt pulley with a 12mm bore, for the poorboy alternator conversion, I have one I'll sell. I've decided to go with a timing belt arrangement. This pulley came from the UK, from RDG Tools. It cost me $43 and change, to get it here. I'd like to get $40 for it. OR, make me an offer.
