popping and backfire on one side 1200gl

i put a set of carbs from a 84 on an 85 1200. when you get in it it runs strong. but idle and low speed it back fires or pops and it will do both, on the leftonly. the right side is fine just the left could it be pulgs or do you thinkthe carbsneed to be sinked. this is the trike project and i thought it was cool when i could watch a foot long flame run out the backpipe when you let off it quick. but now with the harley pipes on it the popping just sucks. more popping back now than a backfire.

thank you. hard work but now that i've seen the finished work it surprizes even me. these carbs came from a running bike and i was told they where perfect so maybe i messed something up when i put them on. don't know anything about carbs for this bike but have a set that came from the engine i took off this bike that needed cleaning could i take the air cut off from one of them and swap it they are both 84's? i don't even know what a air cut off is or where it's located.

It may be clogged pilot jets, is your tank rusty?
Your air cut off valve is on the underside of the plenmun, there will be two lines attached to it.
