I know I have seen it discussed here before. But I can't find it. I even searched the forum. Would someone please point me in the right direction. :baffled::?:gunhead:
396fish I'm not quite sure what it does myself But I hear from others that most of the time when they ck it it has crumbled. Dusty Boots thanks I guess I didn't take enough plastic off .Oh well Back to the mill
You need to remove the ignition switch cover, right top inner cover, right fairing pocket, right fairing lower cover, seat, top compartment then the right fairing inner cover.
This might sound like a lot but it does not take very long to remove them.
Note: You do not need to completely remove the right fairing lower cover, just enough
to remove a screw near the air vent.
None yet. But after seeing some of the other stuff that was let go on this trike. I think Im going to do some preventitive maintance I just bought it in April.
Would sure like to know what the deal is with this filter. Function, symptoms, consequences etc. Reckon this is getting too deep in the deal to be noticed?
"It's all about Emissions certificationand the control of the decel-backfire-- The air under the GL1500's filter is pretty full of hydrocarbons when the throttle sliders are closed (you know, our lovely fuel smell) ... By drawing the decel lean air from that area, it was dificult to hit the emissions standards.Alternately, drawingdecel air via the sub-filter afforded thedesigners nice 'clean' air without the additional HC's being drawn-in the decel-intake supply."
Emission design strictly for US EPA compliance (and likely others)
No inspections here in CO (for bikes; some regional car stuff though)-- the US EPA requires certification on all motor vehicles from the manufacturer (stuff like chain-saws and lawn-mowers also must comply with EPA emission standards -- not like they're tested after production either...)
Change the filter!the air blast goes directly to the carbs if it disintegratesparticles are now in your carbs. Probably looking at pulling them and cleaning if this happens. I'd rather ride than pull it apart for something that could be avoided.
It needs to be checked or changed yearly or the Flux Capacitor will disengage the thromblinspindicator. Also change the cruise filter for good measure. It's on the other side of the backbone.
