The performance of my 86 GL1200I has been getting worse with each ride, hesitation, rough idle, rough cruising speed. Someone today told me that it was the pulse generator since I've had the carbs cleaned and adjusted twice this summer with little or no improvement. What are your thoughts?

Usually if it's the PG's, when they get warm the engine quits, when they cool off again it will run... for a while.

presumably you have changed the air filter and fuel filter?

Did you change the O rings on the manifolds?

Check out the spark plugs, wires and plug connectors. No matter what you do to the carbs they won't compensate for poor ignition.

Yes, plugs, even the manual calls for them to be replaced every 4000 miles... Yes I can't believe it either.
I could just get a year out of the suggested NGK's
